Seat Belt Systems: Description and Operation

Adaptive seatbelt force limitation

Adaptive seatbelt force limitation

In case of a head-on (frontal) collision where front airbags and front seatbelt pretensioners (8/33 and 8/34) have been deployed, the function for adaptive seatbelt force limiter can also be activated. Activation depends on several parameters such as type of collision and calculated collision force. If the adaptive seatbelt force limiter (8/128, 8/129) is activated the Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) sends an activation signal, a current pulse, to the adaptive seatbelt force limiter which reduces the force from the belt on the chest.
