DESCRIPTION:

It has come to our attention that the audio suddenly disappears when using the ipod function in Sensus vehicles. The information regarding artist, album and song title can still be seen in the 1CM display. After the release of iOS 5 from Apple, the compatible iOS 5 devices have changed the connection strategy when it comes to bluetooth streaming.

The issue happens when the iphone is connected to the ipod and to the bluetooth hands free function in Sensus. When the iPhone tries to force the vehicle (IAM2.1) to use the USB connection (docking connection) the audio is transferred to bluetooth after 30-60 seconds. The iphone enters so called bluetooth sniff mode after 30-60 seconds and this triggers the IAM2.1 to send a bluetooth unsniff request to the iphone. From our latest analysis, the behavior is from this point different when it comes to using iOS 4, iOS 3 and iOS 5. When using iOS 5, the IAM2.1 sends a "play" command and not a bluetooth unsniff request to the iphone. This will make the iphone switch from dock connector to bluetooth streaming.

AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) versions have different behaviours on IAM2.1. Apple iphone:
iOS 3/4 : AVRCP version 1.0 works OK, but does not transfer artist, album and song title 1AM 2.1. iOS 5: AVRCP version 1.4 works OK, and transfers artist, album and song title to the IAM2.1.

However, AVRCP version 1.3 and newer will result in the IAM2.1 sending "play" for bluetooth devices. The reason for this IAM2.1 behaviour was to support phones from Sony Ericsson. These phones did not start to play at bluetooth connection and the command was added to ensure play. So our supplier created the problem to support Sony Ericsson phones but the problem was not seen until Apple released iOS 5 with support for AVRCP version 1.4.
