Oil Level and Oil Temperature Sensor, Diagnostics (Certain Markets Only)
Oil level and oil temperature sensor, diagnostics (certain markets only)
General
The oil level and oil temperature sensor is diagnosed by the engine control module (ECM). A diagnostic trouble code is generated if an internal fault is detected on the sensor or if there is an open circuit, short circuit to ground or short circuit to supply voltage in the cables/connectors. A diagnostic trouble code will also be generated if the oil level is too low, too high or drops drastically over a certain time period (leakage).
The pulse ratio for all sensor pulses in a pulse series must lie within the normal operating range. A diagnostic trouble code will be generated in the engine control module (ECM) if this is exceeded.
Hint: Heavily diluted engine oil can cause the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for engine oil level to be stored in the engine control module (ECM).
For more information about diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) see Information, Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the diagnostic tool.
