DESCRIPTION:
We have some complaints about odor or bad smell coming from the climate unit when start the car in the morning or when the car has been standing for a while after driving
Afterblow function has been implemented in production 09w15 (see chassi number end in header) and will be set in default off mode.
The Afterblow function is not possible to activate on cars with IMS(Interior Motion Sensor) sensor due to increased airflow which may cause false alarms.
SERVICE:
We suggest to perform the service actions mentioned below in order to solve the problem with odor:
On cars that do not have the afterblow function activated, the basic and necessary fault tracing needs to be performed prior to the afterblow activation. Check and verify that:
-There are no refrigerant leakages
-AC drain is not clogged - drains sufficient i.e. no water standing in the climate box.
-No water standing underneath the floor carpets.
-Cabin air filter inspected and verify that is has been replaced according to maintenance schedule.
-Cleaning agent treatment has been performed according to VIDA
Perform the treatment with the cleaning agent as described in VIDA under the following path:
Cleaning, Inspection and Adjustment 8 Body and interior

The Afterblow function is not valid on cars with IMS sensor, if trying to download this on cars with IMS they will receive a message that this is not possible to activate

Criterias for afterblow function to operate:
Battery voltage > 12 volt
Ambient temperature > above 68 degrees F (20 degrees.C)
Runs only once every 20 hours
Interior fan speed: 500/0
Running time: 15 minutes
Starts after approx 50min after car has gone down in sleep mode.
