Diagnostic Functions

Diagnostic functions

General
The control modules have a built-in diagnostic system, Volvo Diagnostics, which continuously monitors internal functions as well as input and output signals. The central locking system is a distributed system which stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in different control modules depending on where the fault occurred.

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if a control module detects a fault in a connected component.
If for some reason a fault disappears after the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been permanently stored in a control module, information about the fault remains in the control module.
Central electronic module (CEM)
The central electronic module (CEM) identifies faults related to the central locking system. For further information, see Design and Function, central electronic module (CEM).
Driver door module (DDM)
The driver door module (DDM) identifies faults related to the central locking system. The control module also stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for its corresponding rear door control module. The rear door control module for which the driver door module (DDM) stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) depends on whether the car is left or right-hand drive.
For further information, see Design and Function, door control modules.
Passenger door module (PDM)
The Passenger door module (PDM) identifies faults related to the central locking system. The control module also stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for its corresponding rear door control module. The rear door control module for which the Passenger door module (PDM) stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) depends on whether the car is left or right-hand drive.
For further information, see Design and Function, door control modules.

Description of programmable parameters, customer adaptation
Customer settings can be made via the Infotainment control module (ICM).
The parameters which can be changed are described in the table below.
