Laser safety
Warning! There is a risk of eye injury if any of the instructions in this information are not followed!
Caution! The laser sensor, in the Closing velocity module (CVM), is active in the ignition position II.
- Do not dismantle the laser sensor and do not remove the lenses. A dismantled laser sensor conforms to laser class 3B in accordance with standard IEC 60825-1. Laser class 3B is not eye-safe and therefore represents a risk of injury.
- To avoid exposure to harmful rays, do not make any adjustments or carry out any maintenance on the laser sensor other than those detailed in this information.
- The laser sensor must be attached to the windscreen before the connector is plugged in.
- The laser sensor's connector must be disconnected before the laser sensor is removed from the windscreen.
- The laser sensor emits a scattering invisible laser beam. To look directly into the laser sensor's opening with a magnifying optical instrument, such as a magnifying glass, microscope, lens or the like at a distance shorter than 100 mm, constitutes a risk of eye injury.
Laser - radiation data:
Maximum average output: 45 mW.
Pulse length: 33 ns.
Divergence (horizontal x vertical): 28° x 12°.
Symptom and function description
City Safety is a function primarily designed to help drivers when driving in queues where changes by the vehicle in front together with a lack of attention can result in a collision.
The function is active in the speed range 4-30 km/h. City Safety assists the driver to apply the brakes on the vehicle automatically and with that mitigate or, in certain cases, completely avoid a collision. City Safety only reacts to vehicles that are stationary or that are being driven in the same direction as your own vehicle.
When City Safety applies the brakes on the vehicle, the brake lights come on automatically. At the same time as the function is activated and the brakes are applied on the vehicles, the dashboard display shows a message whether the function is/has been active.
The City Safety function is always switched on when the engine has been started.
City Safety is switched off as follows:
1. Navigate to City Safety on the display using the thumb wheel.
2. Press and hold the RESET button for one second to switch to Off.
3. Navigate City Safety from the display using the thumb wheel.
To engage City Safety again:
1. Follow the same procedure as above, but choose the option On using the RESET button.
Note! The function will be active again the next time the engine starts, even if the system was shutdown when the engine was switched off.
Verification
Access to the vehicle is necessary for the following checks.
- Start the engine.
Is a message related to City Safety or the laser sensor shown on the dashboard's display?
Hint: If the dashboard display shows a message that the laser sensor is blocked this means the City Safety function is not working. However, the message can not be shown for all situations where the laser sensor can be blocked.
- Ensure that the area on the windscreen in front of the laser sensor is free of dirt, rain, ice and snow.
- Ensure that hanging objects, for example a flag or pennant, for an extended load, do not block the area in front of the laser sensor.
- Ensure that accessories, for example auxiliary lights or front bars do not exceed the height on the hood.
After cleaning:
1. Switch off the engine.
2. Wait 1 minute.
3. Start the engine.
