Checking Parking Assistance
Checking parking assistance system
Checking parking assistance system
1. The problem is related to the parking assistance system not giving warnings about objects.
2. The problem is related to the parking assistance system giving warnings when there are no objects (false warning).
Select one of the above options.
1 - Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
2 - Checking false warning
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
1. There is at least one permanent, or according to the DTC counter frequently occurring, DTC related to the parking assistance system.
2. There is no permanent, or according to the DTC counter low-frequency occurring, DTC related to the parking assistance system.
Select one of the above options.
1 - Fault tracing, DTCs
2 - Fault tracing, no DTCs
-------------------------------------------------
Fault tracing, no DTCs
Parking assistance system function failure may be due to faults in other electrical system or that the necessary input signals to the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) are incorrect or not received correctly.
- Check that the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) obtains signals that reverse gear is engaged by reading out the parameter for reverse gear under: VIDA/Diagnostics/Vehicle communication/PAM/Parameters.
- Check that the trailer connector is not connected, or that the Trailer module (TRM) does not incorrectly signal that the trailer is connected, by reading out the parameter for the trailer connector under: VIDA/Diagnostics/Vehicle communication/PAM/Parameters.
- Check that the hand brake does not incorrectly indicate that it has been activated.
- Check that none of the loudspeakers are damaged or that there is any other damage in the vehicle's audio unit.
For information about the system, and about the system's limitations regarding size of detection aim, see design and function for the Parking Assistance Module (PAM).

Checking false warning
Note! New software, which has been improved regarding false warnings, has been introduced and launched into production 10w34.For vehicles with structure week before 201034, download new software to the Parking Assistance Module (PAM).
The system uses ultrasound to detect objects. The system sometimes has difficulty in determining what is of interest to detect and warn about. For example, the system can detect and warn of; tall grass, snow, ice, exhaust gases, curbs and cobblestones, etc. The system can also be affected by other external factors that, such as for example, noise from hydraulics (brake systems on heavy goods vehicles), noise from motorbikes or tire roar on wet pavement.
Note! The description above gives limitations in the system and not reasons to replace components.
The system can also detect and warn about retrofitted parts on the vehicle. For example, the system can warn of bicycle holders, auxiliary lights, large tow hitch guards, improperly positioned number plate etc.
Large amounts of snow, ice or dirt around the sensors on the inside of the bumper can cause false alarms.
The vehicle's plastic components, where the sensors are located, must be correctly installed and not offset or damaged. The sensors must be installed in the correct position, centered in the mounting hole, be secure and correctly angled. The rubber ring around the sensor may not be bent and must be mounted properly.
The paint on the sensor must not cover the rubber ring. There must not be any paint drops.
Note! Small stone chips in the paint on a sensor do not affect the function and are not a reason for replacement.
See the link below for installation and adjustment of parking sensors.
