Control module

The parking assistance system serves as an aid to the driver when parking the vehicle. Based on information from a number of sensors, the system can warn of objects near the vehicle. The warning is in the form of an acoustic signal that is emitted from the speakers connected to the audio module (AUD) or the integrated audio module (IAM). This acoustic warning is regulated by the parking assistance module (PAM) sending signals to the audio module (AUD) or integrated audio module (IAM) via the Infotainment control module (ICM).
When the parking assistance system is active, a figure and/or text message appears in the Infotainment control module (ICM) display and an LED illuminates in a switch located on the climate control module (CCM) panel. The system can be activated and deactivated both automatically and manually.
The components which are directly connected to the parking assistance module (PAM) are:
- rear sensors
- front sensors (extra equipment).
The parking assistance module (PAM) communicates with the following control modules via the CAN network:
- central electronic module (CEM)
- Infotainment control module (ICM)
- climate control module (CCM)
- driver information module (DIM)
- Park Brake Module (PBM)
- gearbox control module (TCM)
- trailer module (TRM) (accessory).

Rear parking sensors

There are 4 rear sensors located in the rear bumper. The sensors can detect objects at a distance of about 1.5 meters (5 feet) directly behind the vehicle.
The smallest objects which can be detected are:
- plastic tube with a height of at least 1,000 mm and a diameter of at least 75 mm (ISO standard).
Rear parking assistance is active when the ignition switch is in position II, the gear selector is in reverse (R) and there is no trailer electrically connected to the vehicle. Rear parking assistance disengages automatically when the gear selector is moved from reverse (R) to any other gear position or when a trailer is electrically connected to the vehicle. Parking assistance can also be disengaged manually using the switch on the panel of the climate control module (CCM).
The following applies if the vehicle's basic setting for reactivation has been changed (which can only be done by a workshop equipped with VIDA):
- if parking assistance has been disengaged with the switch when the vehicle is driven forward at a speed of 16 km/h (10 mph) or more, parking assistance is reactivated via the switch or by moving the gear selector to reverse (R).
- if parking assistance has been disengaged with the switch when the vehicle is driven forward at a speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or less, it can only be reactivated with the switch.

Front parking sensors (extra equipment)

Note! If the vehicle is equipped with front parking assistance, only an approved license plate and license plate holder with a size approved by Volvo may be used. The license plate and license plate holder must be mounted in accordance with Volvo's instructions for correct functionality to be guaranteed.

There are 4 front sensors located in the front bumper. The sensors can detect objects at a distance of about 0.8 meters (2.6 feet) directly in front of the vehicle.
The smallest objects which can be detected are:
- plastic tube with a height of at least 1,000 mm and a diameter of at least 75 mm (ISO standard).
Front parking assistance is active when the ignition switch is in position II and the gear selector is in reverse (R) or when the ignition switch is in position II and the vehicle is stationary or is driven forward at a speed up to 15 km/h (9.3 mph). Front parking assistance disengages automatically when the vehicle is driven forward at a speed of 16 km/h (10 mph) or more. If the vehicle's basic setting is used, front parking assistance is reactivated automatically when speed drops below 10 km/h (6.2 mph).
If the ignition is on and the vehicle is stationary, front parking assistance is disengaged if the parking brake is engaged. On vehicles with automatic transmission, front parking assistance is also disengaged (regardless of speed) if the gear selector is moved to park (P). Front parking assistance can also be disengaged manually using the switch on the panel of the climate control module (CCM).
