Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information BCM-P170181
Condition
The control modules in the vehicle send and receive information continuously on the vehicle's controller area network (CAN). The brake control module (BCM) receives a signal containing information about the selected gear on the CAN network. If back-up (reverse) gear is selected, the stability function cannot be activated. In vehicles equipped a manual transmission, the signal comes from the central electronic module (CEM). In cars with an automatic transmission, the signal comes from the transmission control module (TCM).
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
- Signal missing.
- Back-up (reverse) gear is active and the vehicle is driven forwards.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Ignition switch position II.
Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.
Substitute value
- Stability control (SC) blocked.
- Traction control (TC) blocked.
- Dynamic stability control (DSC) blocked. Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked.
Hint: Brake system, abbreviations Brake System, Abbreviations
Possible source
- For manual transmission, look for problem cause in Central electronic module (CEM).
- For automatic transmission, look for problem cause in Transmission control module (TCM).
Note! This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is not due to an internal hardware fault in the Brake control module (BCM) and must not be remedied by replacing the control module.
