Fault-Tracing Information

Fault-tracing

Checking for the fault
- Start the engine.
Check the problem's appearance by turning the steering wheel back and forth. It should be easy to turn the steering wheel.
If steering is heavy, the problem is active.

Is the malfunction active?

Yes - Checking the current values

No - Fault-tracing information

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the current values
- Switch off the engine.
Check the fuse for the power steering module in the relay and fuse box. If the fuse has blown, check the circuit after the fuse before replacing the fuse. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Connect an ammeter in series with the fuse in the relay and fuse box.
Activate the tool.

Hint: Setting of permitted power consumption for power steering can be done with the tool.

- Set permitted power consumption to approx. 0.8 A by clicking on the corresponding button in the tool at the same time as measuring of current is performed on the ammeter. The measured value on the ammeter shall be approx. 0.4 A (permitted values are approx. 0.35 - 0.45 A).
- Set permitted power consumption to approx. 0.4 A by clicking on the corresponding button in the tool at the same time as measuring of current is performed on the ammeter. The measured value on the ammeter shall be approx. 0.2 A (permitted values are approx. 0.15 - 0.25 A).

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
Check the function of the power steering by starting the engine and turning the steering wheel. It should be easy to turn the steering wheel.

Is the function OK?

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Attempt New Test - Checking for the fault

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the power supply and ground terminal
Check that the right component is installed in the vehicle by checking the unit's serial number.
Check the voltage feed to the control unit for power steering by disconnecting the control unit from the socket and measuring the voltage in the connector with the ignition on. The voltage must be normal battery voltage.
Check the ground cable. Check for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation. Check for an open-circuit. Check the ground terminal connection. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Remedy as necessary.

Were any defects found?

Yes - Verification

No - Replacing a component

Fault-tracing information

Fault-tracing

Fault-tracing information
An intermittent problem has occurred in the component.
If the fault is intermittent, it has been registered previously but is no longer present. Intermittent problem may be due to interference at start of the component or may be another type of problem that can return at different times. The fault is evaluated depending on how it occurs. If the fault recurs, replace component.
In case of a permanent fault, replace component.
Remedy as necessary.
