Fault-Tracing Information






Fault-tracing

Checking the start inhibitor status




- Ignition on.
- Depress the brake pedal.
- Read off the status of the start inhibitor.
Move the gear selector between the positions P, R, N and D.
In positions P and N, the status must be "Start permitted"; in other positions the status must be "Start not permitted".
If the function is correct, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i.e. an intermittent fault.

- Ignition off.
Check connector A (16-pin) for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the cable for short-circuit to ground.
Take readings between:
- Transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A5 (#A35) and engine control module (ECM).
Remedy as necessary.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.








- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the status of the start inhibitor.
Move the gear selector between the positions P, R, N and D.
In positions P and N, the status must be "Start permitted"; in other positions the status must be "Start not permitted".

No - VERIFICATION FAILED
