Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing
Checking solenoids
- Ignition on.
- Activate solenoid SLU by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
Read off the current through the solenoid SLU circuit. The current should oscillate between 100 and 950 mA.
The fault is permanent if the current does not change.
If the current changes, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i.e. an intermittent fault.

Checking the oil quality and the oil level in the transmission
Note! Transmission fluid quality and level are extremely important for the function of the transmission. Therefore it is imperative that these are correct. In addition the oil level is dependent on oil temperature.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the oil temperature.
Check the transmission oil level. If the oil level is low, check the transmission for leakage, then top up with oil.
Check the quality of the oil.
Replace the transmission fluid if the fluid smells burnt.

Checking the components and wiring
- Ignition off.
- Open the transmission control system.
Check connector B (22-pin) for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for damaged or pressed in pins. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Hint: Check linear pressure solenoid SLU as described in: Checking internal components of the transmission, B6304T4, TF-80SC AWD, B5254T5, TF-80SC Checking Internal Components of the Transmission
If no defects were found on connectors or cables, replace the transmission.
Remedy as necessary.

Verification
Verification
Note! When the transmission's control module has been removed and reinstalled, it is important that the gear position sensor is calibrated. Select Pause and create a bookmark. Then select Vehicle communication.
Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Test drive the vehicle following: Test drive schedule, description, B6304T4, TF-80SC AWD, B5254T5, TF-80SC Test Drive Schedule, Description
Check that the transmission does not display any obvious function faults.
Note! When test driving, the oil temperature must be above 20 °C.

Resetting the adaptation and oil quality counter
Resetting adaptation
Resetting the adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil, replace"
Hint: The transmission has torque-regulated, adaptive pressure regulation. The pressure regulator enables the transmission to regulate pressure during each shift to prevent hard shifting. Each shift is assessed by the transmission control module (TCM) and is stored in the internal memory. This makes it possible to compensate for transmission and clutch wear. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset so that the transmission works normally after the repair. Because the fluid was changed during the repair, the counter for transmission fluid change must also be reset. If the counter is not reset during draining/replacement, a diagnostic trouble code may be generated under the wrong conditions.
Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.
- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.

Resetting the oil quality counter
Resetting the "Transmission fluid change" counter
Checking the function
Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for fluid quality that counts the number of times the transmission is subjected to too hard a load or too high an ambient temperature. If the counter is not reset during draining/replacement, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code will be set under the wrong conditions. Thus, it is important that the counter for transmission fluid change be reset.
Note! This only applies when the transmission oil is changed and when the oil is changed during repairs to the transmission's temperature sensor.
- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the counter.
