Fault-Tracing Information

Fault-tracing

Checking the oil temperature sensor

Note! During this fault tracing the transmission and oil should be at room temperature from the start. This is to control the sensor function.

- Ignition on.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Read off the oil temperature.
Allow the transmission to warm up. Check that the oil temperature increases and appears to be within the permitted range.
Compare with transmission external temperature.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is inside the control system and may be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

The fault is permanent if the temperature is outside the permitted range.
If the temperature is within the permitted range, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but that it is not active at the moment, i.e. the fault is intermittent.

Continue - Checking internal components

-------------------------------------------------

Checking internal components

- Ignition off.
- Expose the connector for the transmission control module (TCM).
Check connector B (22-pin) for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for damaged or pressed in pins. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the cable. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Take readings between:
- Transmission connector terminal #B7 and temperature sensor.
- Transmission connector terminal #B8 and temperature sensor.

Hint: Check the temperature. See: Checking internal components of the transmission, B6304T4, TF-80SC AWD, B5254T5, TF-80SC Checking Internal Components of the Transmission

Remedy as necessary.

Verification

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Start the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
- Read off the oil temperature.
Check that the oil temperature is within its permitted range. Compare it to the automatic transmission temperature.

Note! The transmission temperature sensor is inside the control system and may be affected by the heat given off by the solenoids.

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Resetting counter oil

Resetting the "Transmission fluid change" counter

Checking the function

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for fluid quality that counts the number of times the transmission is subjected to too hard a load or too high an ambient temperature. If the counter is not reset during draining/replacement, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code will be set under the wrong conditions. Thus, it is important that the counter for transmission fluid change be reset.

Note! This only applies when the transmission oil is changed and when the oil is changed during repairs to the transmission's temperature sensor.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the counter.
