Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information ECM-P011800

Condition
Engine control module (ECM) measures the engine temperature using a coolant temperature sensor. The control module checks the direct voltage from the sensor.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
- The direct voltage is higher than 4.9 V.
- Incorrect value lasts longer than 9 seconds.
- Incorrect value lasts for 2 or more subsequent driving cycles.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Ignition switch position II.

Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.

Substitute value
- During start: The control module assumes that the coolant temperature is the same as the air temperature in the inlet manifold.
- After start: The control module uses a calculated coolant temperature.
- The control module controls the cooling fan (FC) according to pre-defined speed.

Possible source
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the terminals.
- Short-circuit to supply voltage in the signal cable.
- Open-circuit in the signal cable.
- Damaged coolant temperature sensor.

Fault symptom[s]
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL), on
- Engine is difficult to start
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls
- Electric cooling fan runs continuously, when ignition is off
