Removal
Note! Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
Remove battery Refer to: Battery Removal and Replacement
Torque: M6, 10 Nm
Warning! Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
Warning! Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
Caution! Make sure the open end of the hose is secured above the fluid level in the reservoir.
Remove the following items:
- Panel steering column Refer to: Panel steering column Service and Repair
- Combined instrument panel Refer to: Combined instrument panel Combined Instrument Panel
- Start Inhibit Switch Refer to: Start Inhibit Switch, M66 Service and Repair
Warning! The steering column may contain pyrotechnic components.
Note! Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
Note! Make sure that a new component is installed.
Torque: steering column to steering gear (steering shaft joint), 25 Nm
Torque: Steering column to dashboard, 24 Nm
Torque: M8, 24 Nm

Note! Use a new seal.
Installation
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Perform clutch system venting Refer to: Bleeding the clutch system, B5254T7, M66 Service and Repair
