Stabilizer Bar: Service and Repair






Front Stabilizer Bar

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Removing wheels





Remove:
- the wheels (both sides)
- 1 screw (1) (both sides).

Removing the ball joint from the steering arm




Slacken off the 1 nut (both sides) so that the upper edge is above the screw.




Loosen the ball joint from the link arm on both sides. Use: 951 2945 Puller 951 2945 Puller




Pull the ball joint out of the wheel spindle. Use 999 7076 Lever 999 7076 Lever

Removal

Removing the steering gear from the subframe




Remove the 1 screw (both sides).
Suspend the steering gear in an appropriate manner.

Removing the anti-roll bar link




Remove the 1 nut (1) on both sides.

Note! Use a torx wrench as counterhold so as not to damage the rubber bellows.

Slacken off the front screw (2) of the subframe on both sides approx. 6 turns.

Removing the lower torque rod




Remove 1 screw.

Lowering the sub-frame




Position a transmission jack under the subframe.
Anchor jack pate in the subframe in a suitable manner.

Remove:
- rubber mountings (1)
- the 2 screws (2)
- the 4 screws (3)
- the heated oxygen sensor connector (4)
- the brackets.
Carefully lower the rear edge of subframe.

Removing the anti-roll bar





Remove:
- the 4 screws
- the anti-roll bar.

Installation

Installing the anti-roll bar

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications

Install:
- the anti-roll bar
- the 4 M10 screws. Use new screws.

Installing the sub-frame




Install the gauges. Use: 999 7089 Adjustment tool 999 7089 Adjustment Tool
Carefully raise the subframe so that the adjustment tools meet the holes in the side members.

Note! Make sure that the steering gear is not pinched when raising the subframe.

Install:
- the brackets
- the 4 M8 bracket screws
- the screws, 2 pcs, for the rear subframe mounting. Tighten according to: Tightening torque, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Tightening Torque. Use new screws.
Tighten the 2 x M12 screws for the front subframe mounting. Tighten according to: Tightening torque, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Tightening Torque. Use new screws.

Install:
- the heated oxygen sensor connector.
- the exhaust pipe rubber mountings.

Installing the lower torque rod
Install the 1 M12 screw.

Installing the anti-roll bar link
Install the 2 M10 nuts on both sides

Note! Use a torx wrench as counterhold so as not to damage the rubber bellows.

Installing the steering gear on the subframe
Install the 2 M12 screws.

Installing the ball joint on the steering arm
Pry down link arm. Use: 999 7076 Lever 999 7076 Lever and install the ball joint.
Install the 2 nuts on both sides. Tighten following Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use new nuts.

Finishing

Install:
- the 1 screw per side on the drive shaft. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications. Use new screws.
- the wheel. See: Wheels Service and Repair
