DESCRIPTION: In the event of a short circuit on the MMS communication line the CEM may fail to completely enter sleep mode and this can drain the vehicle battery. To identify if there is a fault on the communication line a diagnostic trouble code CEM CFF0 is introduced. BACKGROUND INFO: DTC CEM CFF0 is stored after the CEM is not able to arm the MMS sensor after two attempts. The DTC can also be set if the CEM can not put the MMS communication chip inside the CEM into sleep mode after 16 attempts. The DTC can be stored on cars with or without alarm.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION: DTC CEM CFF0 is enabled in CEM software beginning week 648. Cars built after W648 from production and cars in the field that have been upgraded with new CEM software after week 648 can set this DTC.

MATERIAL RETURN: No

TECHNICAL REPORT: Yes, report any case where a short circuit on the MMS communication line is found.

SERVICE: When DTC CEM CFF0 is found, fault trace the communication line of the MMS.

1. Measure the wiring from CEM H:17 to pin 3 of MMS1 (7/122) and/or MMS2 (7/158) for short to plus. There should be no continuity to the MMS power supply or other power source.

2. Disconnect the CEM connector H (roof-2) and the MMS sensors.

3. Measure the wiring from CEM H:17 to pin 3 of MMS1 (7/122) and/or MMS2 (7/158) for short to ground. There should be no continuity to ground.

4. Repair any shorted wiring and erase DTC.
