Condition




Regulation of the gear shifts and the lock-up function takes place by activating the solenoids in specific orders. The shift solenoids S1-S5 determine which gear is to be used, while the linear solenoids SLS, SLU and SLT determine how the intervention will take place by adapting the hydraulic pressure linearly. The basic parameters for the various gear shifting points are the position of the accelerator pedal (AP) and the vehicle speed, while the shifting quality is determined with the aid of the torque control.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if control module detects that the transmission speed and engine speed (RPM) signals do not correspond with the programmed values and that an "incorrect" gear is selected. This is because solenoid S3 is jammed in the ON position.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed during normal driving in 4th or 5th gear.

Possible source
- Shift solenoid S3 has jammed mechanically in the ON position
- The solenoid does not function.
