Poor Gear Shifting Quality
Poor gear shifting quality
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Poor shifting quality may be caused by problems in the engine and associated systems. Before continued troubleshooting of Transmission control module (TCM), check that Engine control module (ECM) is fault-free.

-------------------------------------------------
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Hint: Remedy any other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored for the transmission control module (TCM) first. One of these faults could have caused diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM-0100.
- Ignition on
- Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Are other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored?
Yes - DONE
No - Checking for contact resistance and oxidation
-------------------------------------------------
Checking for contact resistance and oxidation
- Ignition off
- Check the transmission connector and the connector for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation
- Reconnect the connectors, reinstall components etc.
- Test drive the car according to: Test drive schedule, description, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN Test Drive Schedule, Description
Check for any clearly audible noises from the transmission. Check for malfunctions.
Other information
- To access the transmission connectors, see: Transmission control module (TCM) Service and Repair
Is the function of the transmission OK?
Yes - FAULT FOUND
No - Replacing the control system
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing the control system
Fault-tracing indicates an internal fault in the transmission.
Replace the control system. See: Control system, replacing Service and Repair

Resetting adaptation and oil quality counter
Resetting the Transmission fluid change counter
Resetting the Transmission fluid change counter
Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil quality. The counter counts up if the transmission is exposed to too high a load or an ambient temperature that is too high. If the counter is not reset when the oil is drained or changed, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored incorrectly. Therefore it is important that the "Transmission oil change" counter is reset.
Note! This only applies when the transmission fluid is changed and when the fluid is changed during repairs to the transmission temperature sensor.
- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the counter.

Test drive the car according to: Test drive schedule, description, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN Test Drive Schedule, Description
Check that the transmission does not display any obvious mechanical faults.
Note! When test driving, the oil temperature must be above 20 °C.
