Checking the P-shift lock solenoid function
- Ignition on
- Gear selector in position P
- Try moving the gear selector to another position without depressing the brake pedal. It should not be possible to move the gear selector
- Depress the brake pedal and try moving the gear selector to another position. It should now be possible to move the gear selector.
The fault is permanent if the gear selector function is not OK.
If the gear selector function is OK, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i.e. an intermittent fault.

-------------------------------------------------
Checking the wiring and component
Check the cable between the connector on transmission control module (TCM) terminal #13 (#A43), gear selector module (GSM) terminal #3 and the P-shift lock solenoid connector terminal #2. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary.
Check the solenoid resistance between terminals #1 and #2 on the connector. For the resistance values, see below. Replace the solenoid if the resistance is incorrect.
