Diagnostic trouble code TCM-002E

If diagnostic trouble code TCM-002E is stored, troubleshooting for that code shall be followed.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.

Is diagnostic trouble code TCM-002E stored in the module?

Yes - Fault-tracing

No - Checking lock-up solenoid SLU

-------------------------------------------------

Checking lock-up solenoid SLU

By activating Lock-up-solenoid (SLU) it is possible to detect if the problem is in or near the solenoid.
- Ignition on.
- Press on the symbol for VCT2000 to start the service.
- Check when activating that Transmission control module (TCM) triggers current to the solenoid (approx. 1000 mA) and that feedback current follows the requested current.

Is the function OK?

Yes - Checking for permanent or intermittent faults

No - Checking the oil quality and the oil level in the transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the oil quality and the oil level in the transmission

Note! Transmission fluid quality and level are extremely important for the function of the transmission. Therefore it is imperative that these are correct. In addition the oil level is dependent on oil temperature.

- Ignition on.
- Read off the oil temperature.
Remedy as necessary.
Check the transmission oil's quality, especially with regards to coolant. Check the transmission fluid for metal swarf. Take a sample using the dip stick.

Does the transmission oil contain coolant or metal filings?

Yes - Replacing transmission

No - Changing transmission oil

Select an alternative below:
1. No fault detected
2. The transmission fluid contains metal swarf. Poor oil quality.

Select alternative according to above.

1 - Replacing transmission control system

2 - Replacing transmission

-------------------------------------------------

Replacing transmission
The previous tests indicate an internal fault in the transmission.
Replace transmission.

Replacing transmission control system
The previous test indicates that there is a fault in the transmission control system.
Replace control system as follows:
- Control system, replacing Service and Repair

Continue - Resetting adaptation and oil quality counter

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting adaptation and oil quality counter

Resetting adaptation

Resetting adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil change"

Hint: The transmission has torque controlled adaptive pressure control. Pressure control means that the transmission regulates the pressure itself during each gear shift. This avoids harsh gear shifting. Each gear shift is evaluated by the transmission control module (TCM) and stored in the memory. This allows for compensation for wear and tear in the transmission and clutch. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset after the transmission has been repaired. This is to ensure normal operation. The oil is replaced during repair; the "Transmission oil change" counter must be reset. If the counter is not reset when the fluid is drained and replaced, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in incorrect circumstances.

Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.

- Ignition on.
- Gear selector in position P
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Ignition on.
Test drive the car according to: Test drive schedule, description, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN Test Drive Schedule, Description
Check that the transmission does not display any obvious mechanical faults.

Note! When test driving, the oil temperature must be above 20 °C.

Attempt New Test - Diagnostic trouble code TCM-002E

-------------------------------------------------

Checking for permanent or intermittent faults

To determine if the problem is intermittent or permanent, the diagnostic trouble code's status must be read out.
- Ignition on.
- Read out status by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
In the VIDA-window, after the diagnostic trouble code, it is noted if the problem is permanent or intermittent.

Is the fault permanent?

Yes - Replacing transmission

No - Intermittent fault

-------------------------------------------------

Intermittent fault

If it is the first time that the customer comes in with the diagnostic trouble code generated, and the diagnostic trouble code is intermittent, the diagnostic trouble code shall be erased.
- Ignition on.
- Erase the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) by clicking the VCT2000 symbol.
- Finish fault-tracing.
If the diagnostic trouble code has been generated earlier more analysis about the cause has to be carried out, choose continue.

-------------------------------------------------

Changing transmission oil

Change transmission oil according to instructions below and then erase the diagnostic trouble code.
- Ignition on.
- Erase the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) by clicking the VCT2000 symbol.

Continue - Resetting the Transmission fluid change counter

-------------------------------------------------

Resetting the "Transmission fluid change" counter

Resetting the Transmission fluid change counter

Resetting the Transmission fluid change counter

Hint: The transmission control module (TCM) has a counter for the oil quality. The counter counts up if the transmission is exposed to too high a load or an ambient temperature that is too high. If the counter is not reset when the oil is drained or changed, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored incorrectly. Therefore it is important that the "Transmission oil change" counter is reset.

Note! This only applies when the transmission fluid is changed and when the fluid is changed during repairs to the transmission temperature sensor.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the counter.
