Communication Fault
Communication fault
Checking components and wiring
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the 10-pin connector from the occupant weight sensor (OWS)
- Disconnect the 20-pin connector located under the passenger seat
- Disconnect the connectors from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS). There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the occupant weight sensor (OWS).
Check the 20-pin connector and the connectors for the occupant weight sensor (OWS) and the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). Check for damage to pins and terminals in the connectors. Check for contact resistance in the connectors.
Remedy as necessary.
Connect the 20-pin connector. Check the CAN cable between the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the 10-pin connector for the occupant weight sensor (OWS). Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between:
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #A51 and occupant weight sensor (OWS) 10-pin connector terminal #1
- Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) terminal #A52 and occupant weight sensor (OWS) 10-pin connector terminal #10.
Remedy as necessary.
Replace the pressure sensor and the occupant weight sensor module (OWS) if no fault is detected. The pressure sensor and occupant weight sensor (OWS) module are included in the occupant weight sensor (OWS) system.
Note! After replacing components in the occupant weight sensor (OWS) system, calibration of the occupant weight sensor (OWS) must be carried out.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead. Wait 10 seconds.
Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
Yes - Exit fault-tracing
No - Attempt New Test
