Fault-Tracing Information
Fault-tracing
Checking the status
Check whether the fault is permanent or intermittent by reading off the signal from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
Note! In order for the correct values to be shown, reading of the temperatures must take place at the moment of start.
- Start the engine.
Check that the engine temperature is reasonable.
The fault is permanent if the signal is incorrect. The fault is intermittent if the signal is correct.
Hint: Remove the engine temperature sensor, but leave the connector in place. Leave the engine hood open, then the engine temperature sensor shall show the same temperature as outdoor temperature.
Continue - Checking the component and wiring
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the component and wiring
- Ignition off.
- Unplug the engine temperature sensor connectors.
- Check the connectors. Check for loose connections. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation.
Check the engine temperature sensor's resistance between #1 and #2 (against the sensor).
Remedy as necessary.
