Fault-Tracing Information

Fault-tracing

Checking the remote receiver
The remote receiver is fitted above the headlining to the left of the central lighting panel, level with the sun visor. The remote receiver is connected to Central electronic module (CEM) or to Keyless vehicle module (KVM) depending on the vehicle's configuration.
Check whether the diagnostic trouble codes for missing communication with the remote control are stored in the Central electronic module (CEM) or in the Keyless vehicle module (KVM), depending on the configuration of the vehicle.
Check that the remote receiver works by pressing the lock and unlock button on the remote control. The vehicle should be locked and unlocked.

Note! Fault-trace the symptoms first, if the remote control and receiver are not working.

Does the remote control and remote receiver work?

Yes - Checking tire pressure sensors

No - DONE

Checking tire pressure sensors

- Ignition on.
Each tire pressure sensor has its own id-number which is sent and stored in central electronic module (CEM).

Note! For trouble code CEM-AFFE, the ID-number is not saved for the missing tire pressure sensor.

Use the special tool and activate one sensor at a time for all four wheels, to check if all sensors send ID-number correctly to the remote receiver. If the special tool does not have a display, click on the VCT2000-symbol to read out latest received ID-number, tire pressure, and battery voltage.

Note!
- Erase any old readings in the tool before starting reading.
- Use only one special tool at a time in the vicinity of the vehicle.

If a sensor does not respond during the test:
- Replace the tire pressure sensor for the relevant wheel. It is probably the sensor that caused the DTC to be stored.

If all sensors respond:
- Erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
- Drive the vehicle for 10 minutes at a speed of at least 40 km/h.
- Now the trouble code shall be resolved.

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
Read off the last stored ID number by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol. The last stored ID number is displayed until a new ID number is received and stored.

Note! The last stored value is erased when the ignition is switched off and on again.

Use the following special tools to activate the sensor.
- 951 2987 TPMS tool 951 2987 TPMS Tool
The special tool activates the sensor which starts to send information to the central electronic module (CEM) and the sensor's id-number can then be read in the upper character window.

Note! Ensure that the special tool is positioned under the edge of the rim against the tire where the sensor is installed. The sensor will not be activated if the tool is against the rim. The sensor must then be held in place for approximately 5 seconds for the signals to be correctly received.Use only one special tool at a time in the vicinity of the car.

Note! Carry out the above in an area away from where other cars are being driven. The receiver can pick up signals from sensors on other cars. An incorrect ID number would then be displayed.

Check that the relevant sensor(s) respond. Test different wheels to ensure that different ID numbers are displayed.
