Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

Condition

For the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) BCM-0011 (wheel sensor left front), BCM-0021 (wheel sensor right front), BCM-0031 (wheel sensor left rear) and BCM-0041 (wheel sensor right rear), the brake control module (BCM) can register mechanical faults as follows:
1. Feasibility assessment by comparing the difference in speed between the wheel with the lowest speed and the wheel with the highest speed
2. Feasibility assessment by comparing the difference in speed between the wheel with the lowest speed and the wheel with the next lowest speed
3. Feasibility assessment by comparing the appearance of the signals from each wheel sensor in order to detect implausible rises in the signal value
4. Feasibility assessment by comparing the reduction in pressure on each wheel during ABS control.
The diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can be diagnosed to varying degrees depending on which assessment method is being employed. In general, you must drive at more than 20 km/h for approximately 2 minutes and perform a number of ABS controls.

Substitute value
- ABS is blocked
- Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) is blocked if two or more wheel sensors are not working
- Traction Control is blocked
- Stability Control is blocked
- Active yaw control is blocked.

Hint: Brake system, abbreviations Brake System, Abbreviations

Possible source
- One of the wheels has been blocked while the car has being driven
- Loose wheel sensor
- The gap between the wheel sensor and the pulse wheel is too large or too small
- Hub vibrations or play in the wheel bearings
- Defect in the pulse wheel
- A wheel sensor is not working.
- Dirt between wheel sensor and pulse wheel.

Note! This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is not due to an internal hardware fault in the Brake control module (BCM) and must not be remedied by replacing the control module.

Fault symptom[s]

If a wheel sensor is defective
- The ABS warning lamp is lit
- The information lamp is lit
- The ABS system does not function
- Traction control does not function
- The stability control system does not function.

If two or more wheel sensors are defective
- General warning lamp lit
- The warning lamp for brake circuit not functioning is lit
- The ABS system does not function
- Traction control does not function
- The stability control system does not function.

Note! If the fault is intermittent the ABS warning lamp will not go out until the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h in the next operating cycle.
