Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

Condition

The brake control module (BCM) receives information about wheel speed from the wheel sensors. The wheel sensors, which are on the wheel mounting, read off a magnetic pulse wheel on the wheel spindle. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) BCM-0010, BCM-0020, BCM-0030 or BCM-0040 is stored, depending on the wheel sensor, if the brake control module (BCM) registers that the signal from any wheel sensor is below 4.5 mA ± 10% or above 20 mA ± 10%.
- BCM-0010: Wheel sensor, left front
- BCM-0020: Wheel sensor, right front
- BCM-0030: Wheel sensor, left rear
- BCM-0040: Wheel sensor, right rear.
The diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) can be diagnosed when the ignition is switched on.

Substitute value
- ABS is blocked
- Electronic Brake force Distribution is blocked if two or more wheel sensors are not working
- Traction Control is blocked
- Stability Control is blocked
- Active yaw control is blocked.

Possible source
- Contact resistance in the terminals
- Open-circuit, short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in the power supply to the wheel sensor
- The signal cables are short-circuited to each other
- Short-circuit to supply voltage or ground in the signal cable
- Open-circuit in the signal cable
- A wheel sensor is not working
- Internal fault in the brake control module (BCM).

Note! Check to see if the wheel sensor cable is fault-free and correctly installed. A defective lead must be replaced, repair is not allowed. For information on correct mounting: Transmission input speed sensor, front wheels Transmission Input Speed Sensor, Front Wheels

Fault symptom[s]

If a wheel sensor is defective
- The ABS warning lamp is lit
- The information lamp is lit
- The ABS system does not function
- The stability control system does not function
- Traction control is not functioning.

If two or more wheel sensors are defective
- General warning lamp lit
- The warning lamp for brake circuit not functioning is lit
- The ABS system does not function
- Traction control does not function
- The stability control system does not function.

Note! If the fault is intermittent the ABS warning lamp will not go out until the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h in the next operating cycle.
