Oil Cooler: Service and Repair






Oil cooler, replacing

Special tools:

Preparatory work

Remove the expansion tank cap.
Lift the vehicle according to: Jacking points, body Service and Repair.
Remove the right front wheel.

Removal

Removing protective plate





Note! There is a guide sleeve on the upper mounting for the plate. This must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.

Remove the 6 screws.

Removing the lower engine cover




Remove the 6 screws.

Draining coolant
Open the cock on the lower left edge of the radiator.
Drain the coolant into a clean receptacle.
Close the cock.

Removing the oil cooler




Position a container under the oil cooler.

Remove:
- the oil level sensor cable, by removing the clamp's screw
- the 4 screws
Pull the oil cooler down slightly and clean the oil pan mating surfaces facing the oil cooler. Cover the holes in the oil pan using tape or similar.

Remove:
- 2 clamps
- the oil cooler. Scrap the O-ring.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the oil cooler





Install:
- new O-ring
- the oil cooler
- the 2 hoses; secure them with the clamps
- the 4 screws. Tighten. See: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications
- the screw for the oil level sensor cable. Tighten. See: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications.

Filling coolant

Caution! Use the filling equipment. When filling manually, air pockets remain in the system.

Caution! Make sure the outlet hose of filling equipment is not blocked as this could damage the cooling system.

Fill with coolant. Use filling equipment: 951 2957 Coolant Reservoir 951 2957 Coolant Reservoir and cover: 951 2955 Cover 951 2955 Cover. Follow the equipment's instructions.
Start the engine and allow it to warm to normal operating temperature.
Check its function, and check for any leaks.

Installing the lower engine cover





Install:
- the lower engine cover
- the 6 M8 screws; tighten.

Installing the protective plate





Install:
- the protective plate
- the 6 M10 screws; tighten.

Finishing

Check the oil and coolant levels. Top up if necessary.
