Starting System: Service and Repair

INTRODUCTION
- NOTE! Read through the whole installation instruction before starting the work.
- The illustrations display the procedure in order of operation. The order of operation is repeated in the text section

Note! Some steps in these Installation instructions are presented with illustration only.

The work is carried out the same way on left and right-hand drive cars, but mirrored on right-hand drive cars. Left-hand drive car shown.





- Activate (and calibrate) the alcohol lock according to the description in the Technical Journal in TIE. Relevant journal is TJ 19265 "Alcoguard, calibration and activation software". It also contains the necessary software.
- After installing the software on the PC according to TJ, connect the alcohol lock to the PC using the communication cable.





- Turn the ignition switch to position 0.

Note! Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.










- Remove the two screws from the reverse of the center console.

- Drill a -9 mm (33/64") hole in the panel in front of the center console as illustrated. Predrill first using a smaller drill bit. Use a drill stop.
- Remove any swarf.

- Remove the cradle from kit. Insert the connector with cable into the drilled hole.

- Route the cable on the right-hand side of the tunnel console. If it is difficult to route, bend a thin piece of wire and insert it to route the cable through (Image B).





- Tighten the cradle using the existing screws.





- Tighten the cradle's left end using self-tapping screws from the kit.





- Place the loose end on the cover's spring in the corresponding lug in the cradle.
- Press the cover over the screw so that the spring engages in the cradle's lug.





- Press the handheld unit in the holder.





- Remove the bolts of the panel underneath the glovebox and remove it.





- Disconnect the lighting connector protection and place the panel to one side.

Applies to vehicles built before 2009 W46




- Take the cable harness from the kit. Route it in front of the carpet and behind the strut for the center console.
- Connect both the connectors for the cable harnesses to each other.

- Detach the Velcro strip from the long rolled up black cable. Pull up the cable in front of the air duct and in through the hole at the upper edge of the glovebox's left front corner.

- Route the cable through the hole.





- Disconnect the green connector for the glovebox lighting, at the upper edge of the fuse holder's right side.





- Connect the glovebox lighting's green male connector (1) to the female connector (2) in the routed adapter cable.
- Connect the remaining male connector (3) in the adapter cable to the glovebox lighting's green female connector.
- Hide the excess cable inside the carpet.





- Pull the excess of the black cable into the glovebox, roll up and secure it using the Velcro strip.











Applies to vehicles built after 2009 W46













- Loosen the connector from the lamp in the glove box lighting, it may be tight.





- Remove the two bolts along the bottom edge of the glovebox.





- Remove the six screws.
- Pull out the glove box slightly.
- Unplug any connectors on the top.
- Remove the glovebox.





- Reinstall the lamp in the glove box.





- Take the adapter wiring and connect the black connector to the glove box lamp.
- Secure the white connector and cables with butyl tape on top of the glove box.
- Route the long cable with green connector to the left side of the glove box rear edge.





- Clamp the cable at the wire damper using a cable tie.





- Insert the long black cable into the large rear hole.





- Secure the two cables using a piece of butyl tape.





- Coil and secure the cable with the corresponding wires.

Check the cradle's power supply




- Place the glove box on the floor on the passenger side.
- Connect the cable from the cradle to the cable routed to the rear edge of the glove box. Ensure that the cable goes under the member.
- Install the alcohol lock in the cradle.

- Lift the glove box and insert it in the space where it is installed.
- Connect the connector for the lighting. The lamp with a battery symbol on the alcohol lock must flash if the cradle has voltage. If there is no voltage turn the black connector (in the white connector).
- If the car has a SIM card holder, connect this cable.
- Insert the glove box in position.
- Tighten the M6 screws. Tighten to 10 Nm (7.5 lbf.ft.).













- Install the screws in the lower edge.


















- Conceal the cables behind the floor mat. Ensure that they are placed so that they cannot be damaged.
