Checking Fuel Injection System
Checking the fuel injection system
Checking the fuel injection system
This is a test to check the reconnected fuel system and its component parts; fuel pressure sensor, fuel pump control module and fuel pump. The purpose of the test is to ensure that the correct fuel pressure is achieved and works even in cases where the engine cannot be started.
The fuel pressure must be approximately 580 kPa with the ignition on. When the engine is idling and is at operating temperature, the pressure is approx. 100 kPa lower, i.e. 480 kPa. By starting the read out with the ignition on and then transferring to the engine idling, the fuel pressure can be seen to drop to approx. 480 kPa, thus eliminating fuel pressure sensor errors.
Hint: Fuel pressure regards absolute pressure.
Hint: Reading off can sometimes be interrupted when the engine is started. Restart the read out according to the following:
- Engine at operating temperature (if possible).
- Ignition on.
- Click the symbol for VCT2000 to begin reading off.
- Read off the values for fuel pressure.
- Engine running.
- Read off the values for fuel pressure.
If any of the values deviate from the expected value, there is a fault in the system. Remedy as necessary.
Hint: If the deviation is sufficiently large, a DTC is stored.
For further information about the required fuel system, see Design and Function.
