Navigation system, portable, Installation kit TMC

Applies to vehicles with portable Navigation system installed

Applies to vehicles with loudspeaker grilles




- Place the front seat in its rearmost position.
- Turn the ignition key to position 0.
- Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Note! Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.





Remove the loudspeaker grille as follows:
- Insert special tool, 999591946 in the joint between the loudspeaker grille and the dashboard approximately as illustrated, until it engages.
- Twist the tool 90° so that the bent section engages with the underneath of the loudspeaker grille.





- Pull upwards until the loudspeaker grille detaches, it is secured with six clips. If necessary, move the tool closer to the clips to facilitate the removal.

Note! Do not damage the dashboard.

- Lift out the loudspeaker grille.





- Disconnect the connector from the GPS cradle and place the grille with GPS holder to one side.





- Remove the screws in the loudspeaker and pull up slightly.





- Disconnect the connector to the loudspeaker.
- Route the cable to the GPS cradle and place the loudspeaker to one side.





- Disconnect the connectors for the cable to the GPS cradle from the butyl tape in the space under the loudspeaker.





- Disconnect the connectors from each other. Place the short cable that ran to the GPS cradle to one side. It will not be reused. A new one is in the kit.














- Prize away the holder for the switch at the lower edge.
- Then prize at the upper edge while coaxing and pulling it out.














- Locate the holes. Pull the panel with air vents straight out.





- Use special tool 9512943.





- Remove the tunnel console's left-hand side panel by carefully pulling it away starting at the rear edge. The panel is secured with six clips on the inside.





- Fold aside the floor mat on the left side of the center console.





- Unplug the two connectors on the left side at the lever carrier.
- Disconnect the female connector for the fibre optic cables from the lever carrier bracket.






Remove the panel around the display and the media player:
- Press in the catch at one of the panel's upper corners. Use a small screwdriver. Carefully pry off the radio panel on the same side. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool.
- Carry out the same procedure on the other side. Then fold the radio panel backward in the vehicle.
- Pull up the radio panel until it detaches.

Hint: If there is difficulty removing the panel, press the panel back into place on both sides and start the removal procedure again. Start from the opposite side to before.





- Remove the gear lever panel by carefully prizing it away starting at the rear edge and then continuing forward. It is fitted with six catches underneath.

- Remove the gear lever panel from the boot. First press in the four catches around the panel. Then pull the panel up. On certain car models there is a keypad at the front edge of the panel. If this is the case, remove the connector on the right-hand side in the centre console to be able to remove the panel.









- Fold up the cover for the storage compartment in the rear section of the tunnel console.





- Remove the covers and screws at the rear edge of the upper panel section of the centre console. First remove the screws on the rear of the panel and then remove the remaining screws on the top, ten in total.





- Remove the edge clip with cable from the lower section of the centre console.





- Remove the upper section of the panel by moving it backward at the front edge and then lifting it out from the front edge of the storage compartment.





- Remove the two screws in the media player and pull it out and place it in front of the gear lever.





- Take the TMC unit and the antenna cable from the kit and connect the antenna cable to OUT on the TMC unit.





- Insert a piece of wire through the hole in the space under the loudspeaker on the side of the air duct where the old cable to the GPS holder runs, and out where the media player was.
- Tape the long black cable from the TMC unit by the piece of wire and pull it up into the space where the loudspeaker was.





- Take the remaining cable harness with the three connectors from the kit and connect the two green connectors to the routed and existing cable harness.





- Take foam tape from the kit.
- Cut off a suitable length for ferrite and connector.
- Wrap foam tape around the ferrite and two large green connectors on the cable to the GPS cradle.





- Secure the connected small connectors at the bottom of the space where the loudspeaker was, using a piece of butyl tape.





- Take the loudspeaker and drill out the large hole in the bracket. Ensure that swarf does not get trapped in the loudspeaker.





- Connect the connector to the loudspeaker.
- Pull up the connected short cable to the GPS cradle through the hole in the loudspeaker bracket.










- Take the loudspeaker grille with GPS holder and connect the routed connector.






Note! Ensure the stud bolts fit in their holes before securing the grille.

- Insert the cable with ferrite through the hole in the loudspeaker bracket. The foam ferrite must end up in the middle of the enlarged hole.
- Carefully secure the loudspeaker grille with the GPS holder in the loudspeaker bracket.


















- Remove the bolts of the panel underneath the glovebox and remove it.





- Disconnect the lighting connector (1) and place the panel to one side.

- Remove the two bolts along the bottom edge of the glovebox.

- Remove the six screws.
- Pull out the glove box slightly.
- Disconnect the connector at the rear edge.
- Remove the connectors on the top left side and disconnect them.
- Remove the glovebox.










Applies to vehicles manufactured after 2009 w46









- Loosen the connector from the lamp in the glovebox lighting, it may be tight.





- Remove the two bolts along the bottom edge of the glovebox.





- Remove the six screws.
- Pull out the glove box slightly.
- Unplug any connectors on the top.
- Remove the glovebox.

Applies to all models




- Pull the antenna cable to the right through the bracket for the media player and to the lower edge of the dashboard.






The images shows the inside of the rear edge of the dashboard where the glovebox is located.
- Route the cable from the media player's location and along the rear edge of the dashboard.
- Secure the cable with pieces of butyl tape.





- Continue to route the cable to the right to the end face.
- Secure with pieces of butyl tape.

- Route the cable up along the end face and out through the hole at the top edge of the end and out onto the dashboard.
- Secure using pieces of butyl tape. Ensure that the cable is positioned so that it does not chafe.









- Remove the foam rubber in the A post panel

- Secure the antenna cable and the excess on the reverse of the A post panel using pieces of butyl tape.









- Reinstall the foam rubber.


















- Wrap foam tape around the TMC unit.





- Place the TMC unit and any cable excess in the space under the media player.
