Where the operations differ, the right hand version is also shown with text and image. When installing Velcro strips/tape, the surface must be at a temperature of at least +20°C (68° F).
Note! Navigation system, portable: For information regarding the GARMIN device, see www.garmin.com.
Note! The disc marked A in the kit image is used on cars with central loudspeaker grilles.
Note! Bluetooth handsfree: This accessory requires software unique to the car. There may be parts in the accessories kit that do not need to be used for this installation. Keep the manual for this accessory in a convenient place in the car.
Note! USB/iPod Interface: This accessory requires software unique to the car.
Note! Take care when handling the components, they are fragile and are easily damaged.
- Take the three screws M5x25 part no. 986957 and nuts from the kit.
- To prevent excessive resistance when the nut for the holder is tightened, hold the screw and screw the nut on and off the threaded part of the screw. Carry this out on all screws and nuts.
- Take special tool 9814104 (torx driver, torx 6), and unscrew the two screws holding the connector in the holder.
- Carefully push the connector to one side with the cable to expose the bottom of the holder.
- Take the kit with the four spacers from the installation kit.
Applies to left and right hand drive cars without centre loudspeaker grille
- Carefully pry off the spacer using P/N 31212788. The part number (1) is on the bottom of the spacer.
Applies to left hand drive cars with centre loudspeaker grille
- Carefully pry off the spacer using P/N 31212534. The part number (1) is on the bottom of the spacer.
Applies to right-hand drive cars with centre loudspeaker grille
- Carefully pry off the spacer using P/N 31212787. The part number (1) is on the bottom of the spacer.
- Take the three screws and insert them in the spacer fully.
- Apply pieces of butyl tape to the screws so that the screw heads do not protrude outside the spacer when installing it.
- Install the spacer in the bottom of the holder.
- Ensure that the holder's two screw turrets align between the small pins in the oblong holes in the spacer. A click should be heard when the spacer is securely in position.
- Place the connector in the bottom of the hole. The guide hole (1) in the connector's circuit board must align in the corresponding pin at the bottom of the holder and the holes (2) in the circuit board must be over the holder's screw turret.
- Take the small torx screws and carefully tighten the connector to the holder. Ensure that the connector's circuit board is properly against the screw turret and that there is no play.
- Remove the butyl tape from the screws.
- Turn the ignition key to position 0.
Note! Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.
- Take the template from the kit and cut along the outer lines LHD/RHD
Note! It is important to carefully measure for the location of the template. Incorrect positioning of the hole group can cause problems in tightening the holder.
- Apply a piece of tape on the dashboard between the LED and button for the hazard warning lights, centered in the middle of these.
- Mark out the middle of the piece of tape in two places as illustrated, and draw a line between these marks.
- Measure a distance of 82 mm (3¼") from the joint between the dashboard and grille and rearwards on the dashboard.
- Take the template and position the arrow point by the marking for 82 mm (3¼"). Position the template so that the central line follows the line on the piece of tape.
- Tape the template to the dashboard.
Applies to all models
- Prize away the holder for the switch at the lower edge.
- Then prize at the upper edge while coaxing and pulling it out.
- Unplug the connector.
- Remove the screw.
Illustrations A and B
- Locate the holes. Pull the panel with air vents straight out.
- Use special tool 9512943.
- Remove the bolts of the panel underneath the glovebox and remove it.
- Remove the two screws.
- Remove the six screws.
- Pull out the glove box in one piece.
- Disconnect the connector at the rear edge.
- Remove the connectors on top and disconnect them.
- Remove the glovebox.
- Cover the ventilation openings with a paper towel to prevent drill swarf from entering.
- Place a paper towel in the dashboard underneath where the holes are to be drilled.
- Mark the holes in the centre using a scriber.
Note! Select the correct version LHD or RHD and without loudspeaker grille.
- Pre-drill the holes according to the template using a -5 mm (13/64") drill bit. Fit a 20 mm (25/32") drill stop. Drill square to the dashboard where the holes are to be positioned.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
Illustration A
- Select a -14 mm (9/16") hole saw.
- Swap the central drill bit in the hole saw for a -5 mm (13/64") drill bit. The hole in the holder is larger than the diameter of the drill bit. Therefore, wrap tape around the end of the drill bit to make sure it sits firmly in place in the hole. Do not lock the central drill bit with the lock screw. The drill bit must only be used for guiding the hole saw because the holes in the dashboard's lower part cannot be larger than -5 mm (13/64").
Illustration B
- Fit a 13 mm (33/64") drill stop
- Drill out for the cradle's three feet.
Note! Only drill through the vinyl layer and foam layer, not through the plastic layer (1) on the lower part of the dashboard as this will make the hole too large for the nuts that are to be tightened from underneath.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
- Select a -25 mm (1") hole saw.
- Change the centre drill in the hole saw back to the original drill bit.
- Drill for the connection of the connector. Drill through all layers of the dashboard. Use a 25 mm (1")drill stop.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
- Use a small screwdriver and clear the three small holes from any chips so that the underlying plastic layer appears.
- Remove the paper from the air ducts and the paper from under the dashboard. Make sure no swarf is left inside the dashboard.
- Take out the cradle and insert the three stud bolts down through the holes in the dashboard's plastic layer.
- Take out the three nuts and tighten the cradle on the dashboard.
- Access for installing and tightening nuts is via the space for the glove box.
- Take out the short connection cable from the kit and secure the connector to the bottom of the cradle.
Remove the loudspeaker grille as follows:
- Insert special tool, 9995919 in the joint between the loudspeaker grille and the dashboard approximately as illustrated, until it engages.
- Twist the tool 90° so that the bent section engages with the underneath of the loudspeaker grille.
- Pull upward until the loudspeaker grille detaches. The loudspeaker grille is securely fastened by four clips. Move the tool closer to the clips to facilitate removal.
Note! Do not damage the dashboard.
- Lift out the loudspeaker grille.
- Take the template from the kit and cut along the outer lines LHD/RHD
- Tape the template to the loudspeaker grille.
- Drill at right angles to the loudspeaker grille where the holes are to be.
Note! Select the correct version LHD or RHD and with loudspeaker grille.
- Predrill the holes according to the template using a -3 mm (1/8") drill bit.
- Remove the template and drill swarf.
- Push on the speaker grille in the dashboard to predrill the holes in the loudspeaker bracket.
Illustrations A and B
- Drill perpendicularly through the holes in the speaker grille and through the loudspeaker bracket.
- Remove the loudspeaker grille as before.
- Drill the three holes for the cradle's feet using a step drill -14 mm (9/16").
- Take the step drill and drill out the hole for the connection in the holder using a -28 mm (1 7/64") drill bit.
