Fault-tracing

Checking the status




- Ignition on.
- Gear selector in position P.
Try moving the gear selector to another position without depressing the brake pedal. It should not be possible to move the gear selector.
Depress the brake pedal and try moving the gear selector to another position. It should now be possible to move the gear selector.
If the gear selector function is OK, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i.e. an intermittent fault.

Check the cable for short-circuit to ground.
Take readings between:
- Solenoid for P-position lockout and Gear selector module (GSM).
Check the solenoid's resistance by connecting an ohmmeter between terminals #1 and #2 on the solenoid's connector.
For the resistance values, see below. Replace the solenoid if the resistance is incorrect.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.




- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
- Gear selector in position P.
Try moving the gear selector to another position without depressing the brake pedal. It should not be possible to move the gear selector.
Depress the brake pedal and try moving the gear selector to another position. It should now be possible to move the gear selector.
