Reading off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

This diagnostic trouble code is an event-controlled trouble code which is detected if output rpm is too low compared to input rpm from the engine side. The malfunction, which is the cause of the detection of the diagnostic trouble code, often has as a result that several diagnostic trouble codes are generated. Stop troubleshooting for this diagnostic trouble code, and troubleshoot other diagnostic trouble codes in Transmission control module (TCM).
- Ignition on.
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are other diagnostic trouble codes stored?

Yes - DONE

No - Checking the oil quality and the oil level in the transmission

Checking the oil quality and the oil level in the transmission

Note! Transmission fluid quality and level are extremely important for the function of the transmission. Therefore it is imperative that these are correct.

Investigate the transmission's oil quality as follows.
If the transmission oil contains impurities, e.g., metal filings, the cause is some form of wear in the transmission and may lead to components jamming and failing. Then the transmission has to be replaced as follows.
If the transmission oil is discolored and smells burnt the cause may be that the transmission has been exposed to severe stresses.
When checking, the oil is drained to enable careful examination. This leads to a change of transmission oil.

Resetting the adaptation and oil quality counter

Resetting adaptation

Resetting the adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil, replace"

Hint: The transmission has torque-regulated, adaptive pressure regulation. The pressure regulator enables the transmission to regulate pressure during each shift to prevent hard shifting. Each shift is assessed by the transmission control module (TCM) and is stored in the internal memory. This makes it possible to compensate for transmission and clutch wear. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset so that the transmission works normally after the repair. Because the fluid was changed during the repair, the counter for transmission fluid change must also be reset. If the counter is not reset during draining/replacement, a diagnostic trouble code may be generated under the wrong conditions.

Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.

- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.

Verification

Note! When the transmission's control module has been removed and reinstalled, it is important that the gear position sensor is calibrated. Select Pause and create a bookmark. Then select Vehicle communication.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Test drive the vehicle following: Test drive schedule, description, B6304T4, TF-80SC AWD, B6324S5, TF-80SC AWD, B6324S5, TF-80SC, B6324S4, TF-80SC, B6324S4, TF-80SC AWD Test Drive Schedule, Description
Check that the transmission does not display any obvious function faults.

Note! When test driving, the oil temperature must be above 20 °C.
