Accessory Electronic Module (AEM)
INTRODUCTION
- NOTE! Read through the whole installation instruction before starting the work.
- The illustrations display the procedure in order of operation. The order of operation is repeated in the text
Accessory Electronic Module (AEM)
Note! This accessory is connected to the electrical system of the car. It requires software unique to the car.
- Turn the ignition key to position 0.
- Remove the key from the ignition.
Note! Wait at least five minutes before disconnecting the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.
Points 2-17 apply to the V50
- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.
Removing the sill trim panel from the tailgate:
- Pry off the four external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel so that the two clips at that end release. Use a weatherstrip tool.
- Pull up the sill trim panel so the remaining six clips release. Remove the panel.
Removing the rubber seal for the tailgate:
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the right-hand side panel in the boot opening.
- Fold the seat cushion and backrest on the right-hand side of the rear seat forward.
Removing the side cushion:
- Grasp the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases.
- Slide the side cushion upwards.
Removing the panel at the front/top of the side panel:
- Remove the screw at the rear edge of the panel at the front/top of the right-hand side panel.
- Pull the panel upwards so that the four clips on the inside release.
- Pull off the rubber strip at the rear of the opening for the right-hand rear door.
Removing the lower panel on the C-post:
- Carefully pry off the lower panel on the C-post on the right-hand side. Carefully pry at the top edge. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool.
- Pull the panel on the C-post so that the two upper clips release. Then continue pulling downwards until the last two clips release.
Removing the side panel:
- Fold out the load securing eyelets on the right-hand side panel.
- Insert a scriber with an angled tip into the holes in the top of the covers (1). Turn the scriber so that the tip engages the reverse of the cover. Pull the cover off.
- Remove the screws in the load securing eyelets.
- Remove the screw (2) at the front/top edge of the side panel.
- Pull off the side panel at the top so that the two clips at the rear/bottom of the side window and the clip at the bottom of the D-post release.
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present.
- Lift out the side panel.
- Remove the right-hand floor support. First remove the three clips at the bottom of the compartment, then lift it up.
Applies to cars with Parking Assistance Module (PAM)
- Remove the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) with cables behind the right-hand wheel arch. This is done to make space for installing the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).
- If necessary: disconnect any surrounding wiring.
- Remove the insulation panel. The insulation panel is secured with two clips.
- Drill two holes in the body as illustrated. Use a -5.0 mm (13/64") diameter drill bit. These holes must be used when securing the bracket for the control module.
- Treat the edges of the holes using a rust-proofing agent.
- Remove any swarf.
- Secure the bracket in the rear hole (1) in the body. Use a screw from the kit.
- Adjust the bracket so that it is straight.
- Use a scriber to make a mark, through the hole in the body, where the final hole will be drilled on the bracket.
- Remove the bracket from the body. Drill out the hole. Use a -3.5 mm (9/64") diameter drill bit.
- Treat the edges of the holes using a rust-proofing agent.
- Rust-proof the hole edges in the bracket.
- Take the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM) from the kit and press it into the bracket.

Take the adapter wiring from the kit and connect it to the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM) as follows:
- Plug the black (SB) four pin connector (1) into the control module.
- Connect the white (W) two pin male connector (2) to the white (W) pre-routed two pin female connector in the rear of the wheel arch.
- Use a tie strap from the kit. Clamp the remaining white (W) two pin female connector to the adapter wiring (3) at the existing cable harness.
- Plug the green (GN) five pin male connector (4) into the routed green (GN) five pin female connector, which is clamped in the front edge of the large hole in the side of the body.
- Use a tie strap from the kit. Clamp the remaining green (GN) five pin female connector to the adapter wiring (5) at the existing cable harness.
Applies to cars with a 12V socket
- Connect the white (W) two pin male connector on the adapter cable (2) to the white (W) two pin female connector that was disconnected from the 12V socket.
- Connect the remaining white (W) two pin female connector on the adapter wiring (3) to the 12V socket.

Applies to cars with a tow hitch
- Detach the green (GN) five pin female connector (6) from the Trailer Module (TRM). Plug it into the green (GN) five pin male connector (4, illustration A) on the adapter cable.
- Plug the adapter cable's green (GN) five pin female connector (5, illustration A) to the Trailer Module (TRM).

Applies to cars from CH 40000-, with Parking Assistance Module (PAM) without a tow hitch
- Detach the green (GN) five pin connector (1) which is taped at the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) cable's rubber grommet.
- Plug the green connector into the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).
- Fit the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM) in place and tighten the two screws.
- Position the wiring inside the panel at the rear wing.
- Reinstall the soundproofing panel.
- Refit the Parking Assistance Module (PAM), if the car is equipped with one. In addition, refit any detached cables.
- Reinstall the floor support.
- Reinstall the side panel. Tighten using the screw at the front edge. Tighten the screws for the load securing eyelets. Tighten to 24 Nm (18 lbf. ft.).
- Reinstall the lower C-post panel.
- Reinstall the rubber strip at the rear edge of the opening for the rear door.
- Reinstall the panel at the front/top of the side panel. Press downwards so that the catches engage. Then tighten using the screw.
- Reinstall the side cushion.
- Reinstall the rubber strip in the boot lid opening.
- Reinstall the sill trim panel for the tailgate.
- Reinstall the cargo compartment carpet.
- Fold the backrest and seat back into place.
- Program the function using VCT2000.
Points 18-32 apply to S40 (04-)
- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.
- Remove the upper floor supports on the left and right-hand sides if applicable.
Removing the sill trim panel from the tailgate
- Pry off the two external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel using a weatherstrip tool so that the two clips at that end release.
- Pull up the sill trim panel at the other end so that the remaining two clips release. Remove the sill trim panel.
Removing the rubber seal for the tailgate:
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the right-hand side panel in the boot opening.
- Fold the seat cushion and backrest on the right-hand side of the rear seat forward.
Removing the right-hand side cushion:
- Grasp the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases.
- Slide the side cushion upwards.
Removing the side panel:
- Remove the five clips (1, illustrations A and B) holding the side panel in the bodywork.
- Unhook the front edge of the parcel shelf panel at the mounting (2, illustration A). Pull the side panel away from the parcel shelf panel and the panel on the C-post.
- Unhook the side panel from the mounting (3, illustration B) on the underneath of the parcel shelf.
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present.
- Unhook the side panel from the load securing eyelets (4, illustration A). Remove the side panel.
- Remove the lower floor support on the right-hand side. First remove the three clips at the bottom of the compartment, then lift the lower floor support up.
Applies to cars with Parking Assistance Module (PAM)
- Remove the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) with cables behind the right-hand wheel arch. This is done to make space for installing the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).

- Take the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM) from the kit and press it into the bracket.

- Plug the adapter cable's green (GN) five pin female connector (5, illustration A) to the Trailer Module (TRM).

Applies to cars from CH 45000-, with Parking Assistance Module (PAM) without a tow hitch
- Detach the green (GN) five pin connector (1) which is taped at the Parking Assistance Module (PAM) cable's rubber grommet.
- Plug the green connector into the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM).
- Fit the Accessory Electronic Module (AEM) in place and tighten the two screws.
- Position the wiring inside the panel at the rear wing.
- Refit the Parking Assistance Module (PAM), if the car is equipped with one. In addition, refit any detached cables.
- Reinstall the lower floor support.
- Reinstall the side panel using its clips.
- Press the panel for the parcel shelf into place.
- Reinstall the side cushion.
- Fold the backrest back into place.
- Fold the seat cushion back into place.
- Reinstall the rubber strip in the boot lid opening.
- Reinstall the sill panel.
- Reinstall the upper floor supports if applicable.
- Reinstall the cargo compartment carpet.
- Program the function using VCT2000.
The fifty pin connector in the kit must be used to connect electrical accessories.
