Removal
Removing the carrier plate
Remove the carrier plate. See: Carrier plate, replacing, B8444S, TF-80SC AWD Service and Repair.
Removing the rear sealing ring
Caution! Do not damage the mating surfaces of the crankshaft and cylinder block.
Remove the old sealing ring using puller 999 5651 Extractor 999 5651 Extractor.
Clean around the crankshaft flange and screw holes to remove any thread sealant residue. If necessary, wash and dry away any oil from the engine's rear engine block plane and the transmission clutch housing. Blow clean with compressed air.
Caution! When cleaning work around the flange, not in and out. No grinding tools or similar may be used. It is extremely important that there is no thread sealant residue or other dirt. This could cause leakage.
Note! To clean the crankshaft, use cloth 9511024.
Installation
Installing the rear sealing ring
Caution! Only Volvo approved engine oil may be used. Grease must not be used at all. It attracts dirt and results in the build-up of coke.
Lubricate the sealing ring mating surface against the cylinder block and the lips of the seal.
Fit a new sealing ring on the inner part of tool 999 7194 Drift 999 7194 Drift and screw the inner part onto the crankshaft using two old screws from the carrier plate.
Press in the sealing ring with the outer part of tool 999 7194 Drift 999 7194 Drift with the center screw to the stop.
Remove tool 999 7194 Drift 999 7194 Drift. Scrap the carrier plate screws.
Installing the carrier plate
