Transmission Oil Level - Checking

Transmission oil level - checking

Operation number: 43941-2

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

Preparatory work

Removing the lower engine cover

Slacken off the screws and remove the lower engine cover.

Removing air filter housing
Remove the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Service and Repair

Before filling

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the specified material.

Warning! Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

Caution! Ensure that equipment and tools are clean and free from contaminants and lubricant.

Remove filler plug (Torx 55).
Suspend a filler syringe or a hose with funnel in the filler hole. Use transmission fluid: Refer to: Lubrication transmission Tools and Equipment

Installing the air cleaner (ACL)
Temporarily install the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Service and Repair

Check

Basic fluid level check
Start the engine.

Note! Leave the engine running during the entire check.

Note! The following measure must be carried out quickly to avoid overheating the fluid.

Run through all the positions between P and D on the gear selector. Stop at each position for at least 2 seconds. Perform this process twice.
Place the gear selector in position P.

Raise the vehicle and place a receptacle under the transmission.
While the engine is running, remove the integrated level plug (Torx 40).
If there is no transmission fluid coming out of the level plug hole, top up until it starts to drop.
Install the level plug by hand, Reuse the O-ring.
Switch off the engine.
To prevent the temperature exceeding the measuring interval in the next measure, top up with 0.5 liter transmission fluid. Refer to: Lubrication transmission Tools and Equipment

Finishing

Installing the filler plug

Install the filler plug (Torx 55). Use a new O-ring. Moisten the new O-ring using transmission fluid and tighten.

Installing the air cleaner (ACL)
Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Service and Repair

Checking the oil level
Connect the diagnostic equipment and read the transmission fluid temperature continuously.
Start the engine.

Note! Leave the engine running during the entire check.

Note! The following measure must be carried out quickly to avoid overheating the fluid.

Run through all the positions between P and D on the gear selector. Stop at each position for at least 2 seconds. Perform this process twice.

Allow the transmission fluid to heat up to 50 °C.

Note! The fluid will not heat up faster by stalling.

Place a lower drip shield on the floor under the vehicle.
While the engine is running, remove the integrated level plug (Torx 40).
Allow the excess fluid to run out.
When the fluid is between 50 °C and 60 °C, check that the transmission fluid has stopped running out and is only dropping from the level plug hole.

Caution! It is essential the temperature not exceed 60 °C, as this can result in the transmission fluid level being too low.

Install the integrated level plug (Torx 40). Use a new O-ring. Moisten the new O-ring using transmission fluid and tighten.

Note! Wipe away any transmission fluid spill.

Installing the lower engine cover

Fit the lower engine cover with bolts, 6 x M8. Tighten.
Switch off the engine.
