AFFECTED VEHICLES:

DESCRIPTION:
New BPM hardware (HW) and software (SW) has been introduced to improve functionality.
- New Bluetooth(R) core version, 2.0 + EDR with 3 Mbps (earlier BPM has 1 Mbps)
- New SW with support for V-card handling.
- Support for UTF-8 character set.
- BPM version is shown in the ICM Bluetooth phone menu.

See Steps 1 through 2.5 for individual description of the enhancements

PRODUCT MODIFICATION: The new BPM HW was introduced into production from structure week 200847 Chassis numbers below. It is backwards compatible.
124:101403- (structure week 200848-) 135: 095881- (structure week 200848-)
136: 061226- (structure week 200848-) 156: 009899- (structure week 200848-)

533:139646- (structure week 200847- 542: 075762- (structure week 200847-)
544: 457429- (structure week 200847-) 545: 480681 - (structure week 200847-)
The new BPM HW also has new SW from the above structure weeks.

To further improve the functionality, new SW has been released week 12, 2009 to:
- Improve the MOST communication.
- Improve the UTF-8 character handling.
- Increased gain in the uplink (Higher volume on landside).
124:105462- (structure week 200912-) 135:105462- (structure week 200912-)
136: 064417- (structure week 200912-) 156: 028420- (structure week 200912-)

533: 147754- (structure week 200912-) 542: 077979- (structure week 200913-)
544: 464366- (structure week 200912-) 545: 494228- (structure week 200912-)

Backwards compatible SW for vehicles with earlier structure weeks than 200848 has been
released 2009 week 12. They contain the following improvements:
- Support for V-card handling.
- Support for UTF-8 character set.
- Increased gain in the uplink (Higher volume on landside).
- BPM version can be shown in the ICM (Infotainment Control Module) Bluetooth phone menu, but only if the ICM SW is upgraded . Backwards compatible to the chassis numbers indicated below:
- Vehicle type 124, 135 and 136 only backwards compatible to structure week 200843.
- Vehicle type 156 backwards compatible to structure week 200835.
- Vehicle type 533, 542, 544 and 545 backwards compatible to structure week 200820.

SERVICE: If a problem occurs with the above described functions, please perform a BPM upgrade and test the functionality afterwards

1. BPM HW Functionality improvements

1.1 Bluetooth core version, 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) with 3 Mbps
BPM (Bluetooth Phone Module),
* Backwards compatible with previous Bluetooth versions
* Three times faster transmission speed
* Enhanced data rate transfer of up to 3 Mbps
* Lower power consumption due to reduced duty cycles

2. BPM 200912 SW Functionality improvements

2.1 Support for V-card (electronic business card) handling.
Incomplete or no phonebook or call list transfer at the synchronization phase of the mobile phone.

2.2 Support for UTF-8 character set.
The phonebook names and numbers may be mixed, if the mobile phone uses UTF-8, (Unicode/UCS* Transformation Format, 8-bit form) for character coding of the phonebook names and numbers in its operation system, such as Windows Mobile OS (Operating System)
This makes the phonebook unserviceable.
*UCS = Universal character set

Known telephones that have Windows Mobile OS with the above mentioned symptoms are:
ASUS P750 HTC P3450
HTC P3470 HTC Touch Pro
LG KS20 Samsung SGH 1200
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Known telephones with other operating systems that can be affected by these symptoms are:
Samsung SCH-U700 Gleam
Motorola ROKR E8

2.3 BPM version is shown in the 1CM Bluetooth phone menu.
BPM version will be available in the 1CM bluetooth phone menu, but only if the ICM SW is upgraded in conjunction with the BPM service SW. backwards compatibility applies. See note at the beginning of this bulletin.

2.4 Improved MOST communication

A BPM SW bug can cause the MOST network to lock-up and prevent all infotainment functions related to MOST.

This only applies to the BPM HW pin 31282130 in traduced 200847

2.5 Increased gain in the uplink (Higher volume on landside).
The sound quality at "land-side" (party being called) may be experienced as poor, especially when calling to a "land-side" GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) -phone or "vehicle to vehicle. The volume level may also be experienced as low in the customer vehicle. Optimized BPM sound parameters have been introduced. Also refer to RTJ 20473: New microphone and microphone location to improve sound quality at landside for further hardware enhancements.
