Diagnostic Functions

Diagnostic functions

General
The control module has a built-in diagnostic system, Volvo Diagnostic, which continuously monitors internal functions as well as input and output signals.

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
If the control module detects a fault, it stores a diagnostic trouble code. A fault detected during the most recent operating cycle is defined as permanent. Other faults are defined as intermittent. If a fault should disappear after a permanent diagnostic trouble code is stored in the control module, the control module retains information on the fault.

Readout of Volvo Diagnostic
Information on any faults as well as other data is read out using the diagnostic tool. The tool communicates with the control module via a standardized communication method.

Volvo Diagnostic
The diagnostic tool can be used to:
- read and erase stored diagnostic trouble codes
- continually read values and status of system input and output signals
- activate certain functions
- read control module identification
Requirements to be able to activate Volvo Diagnostic
- ignition on
- normal battery voltage
