Variable Valve Timing Actuator: Service and Repair






VVT unit

Operation number: 21557-2

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.






Removal

Remove the front crankshaft seal. Refer to: Crankshaft front seal, B6304T2 Service and Repair.




Rotate the engine to the zero position.999 7257 Wrench 999 7257 Wrench

Remove the outer timing gear casing. Refer to: Gasket, outer timing cover, B6304T2 Gasket, Outer Timing Cover




Raise the tensioner's retaining plate (1) slightly and press the tensioner (2) together. Lock in place with a steel wire, drill bit or the like that is - 2 mm in the tensioner hole (3).





Attach the following items:
- 999 7263 Counterhold 999 7263 Counterhold
- 999 7264 Counterhold 999 7264 Counterhold








Install the VVT units without chain.
Torque: VVT unit, center screw, 30 Nm

Check that the VVT units are in the locked position by turning them in both directions.
Remove the VVT units.

Installation




Install the VVT units together with the chain. Do not tighten.




Torque: M7, 17 Nm





Attach the following items:
- 999 7263 Counterhold 999 7263 Counterhold
- 999 7264 Counterhold 999 7264 Counterhold
- 999 7272 TORX 60 999 7272 Torx(R) 60

Install the following items:
- Torque: Center bolt, exhaust camshaft Stage 1: 75 Nm Stage 2: 90 degree

- Torque: Center bolt, intake camshaft, 110 Nm

Install outer timing cover. Refer to: Gasket, outer timing cover, B6304T2 Gasket, Outer Timing Cover

Torque: M12, 80 Nm

Fit the front crankshaft seal. Refer to: Crankshaft front seal, B6304T2 Service and Repair
