AFFECTED VEHICLES:

NOTE:
This document refers to the dual screen system with DVD and screen built into the front seat head restraint that is available as an accessory or installed at the port of entry. NOT the "factory version" with the DVD player in the center console.

DESCRIPTION:
It has been discovered that when a RSE head restraint needs to be replaced
damage may occur to the player and / or cables. Should these head restraints needs to be replaced for any reason the instructions here should be followed.

SERVICE:
Removal - replacement of the head restraint with a RSE screen / player is similar to the head restraint without the built-in unit. The primary difference is the cables routed within the head restraint mounting posts and seat back. The following instructions describe the method, and precautions that should be followed.

Head Restraint Removal

Press the catches through the upholstery in and downward - lift the head restraint upwards while the catches are pressed in.

NOTE:
The effort to depress the catches will need to be greater than on the non-RSE head restraint.

If the head restraint will not release; the catch release tabs may have been broken during the RSE installation.

In this case it will be necessary to reach up into the upholstery and use you finger to depress the catch arm and release the head restraint.

NOTE:
photograph shows the upholstery removed for clarity.

It is likely the release catch was broken
during the RSE installation and should be
replaced.
See "Head Restraint Install" step 1."

Release the Plastic "J" Channel at the
bottom of the seat back holding the
upholstery together on both front seats.
NOTE: No other upholstery removal should
be necessary.

IMPORTANT STEP! Read the entire step
prior to proceeding.

Gently feed the wire up through the seat
back until you feel resistance. When the
cable connector comes in contact with the
head restraints catch tab it will bind.
DO NOT force; you will damage the release
catch and the cable connector.
Push the cable back into the seat back
about 2 inches (50 mm) and as in the first
step; depress and hold the catches open to
allow the wire to feed through more easily.

NOTE: Although no other upholstery
removal should be necessary, it may be
necessary to reach up within the seat back
to align the cable connector for removal.
Repeat for all wires to / from the head
restraint.

Head Restraint Install

IMPORTANT NOTE: when using the plastic
guide tool provided in the installation kit to
install the cable; Be careful to not break the
catch tab!

To ensure this; rotate the guide tool while
inserting into the seat back. This will ensure
the tool does not get "stuck" on the corner
of the tab as shown.

Insert the cable into the head restraint
mounting hole as shown.

Once the wires passes through the catch,
continue feeding the wire another 8 inches
(203 mm).

Move the seatback forward so you can
reach inside the upholstery to where the
cables are fed through.
Slowly / Carefully pull the cable down to the
bottom section of the seat back.

The upholstery is constructed of two layers
of fabric. Be sure your hand is not between
the layers so you can locate the cable.

NOTE: For reference; the RSE install kit
plastic guide is shown the area to locate the
cable.

Once the cables have been routed through
the seat back; reinstall the head restraint.
Insert the mounting shafts into the seatback
while gently pulling the cables from below to
take out any slack.

Press down head restraint until the catches
lock.

Note: Check installation by lifting the head
restraint. It should not be possible to move
it upwards.

At the base of the seat back connect and
secure the cables. Reinstall the "J" channel.
