Parking Assistance, Camera (Continued)

Installing the parking assistance camera (PAC)




- Fold up the cargo compartment floor's insulation. Remove the foam from the insulation at the perforation.




- Clean the area of the cargo compartment floor as illustrated. Use isopropanol.
- Wipe dry.




- Take the control module from the kit.
- Use isopropanol and clean the two polished surfaces on the control module.
- Wipe dry.




- Take two Velcro straps from the kit and press them together edge to edge.




- Cut off the Velcro straps in the center.




- Remove the protective film from one side of the two attached Velcro strips.




- Press the Velcro strips onto the cleaned surfaces of the control module.




- Remove the protective film from the installed Velcro strips.




- Position the control module on the floor so that it fits in the cut-out in the insulation.
- Secure the control module to the floor.
- Connect the routed cable connector to the control module.

- Take the adapter cable B with the green connector from the kit. Connect the green 16 pin connector to the control module.
- Connect the green prerouted 5-pin male connector to the corresponding connector in the adapter cable.
- Secure the excess cable at the existing using a cable tie.

The image shows the location of the control module for the parking assistance camera (PAC) together with the trailer module (TRM).
- Ensure that the control module for the parking assistance camera is positioned so that it and the wiring do not rub against the trailer module (TRM).
- Disconnect the green 5-pin male connector (1) from the trailer module (TRM) and connect to the green 5-pin female connector (2) in the adapter cable. Connect the remaining green connectors (3) in the adapter cable to the parking assistance camera module and the trailer module (TRM).




- Take the ground lead from the prerouted adapter cable. Route it backwards along the cable duct and the thin cable harness to the rear crossmember.
- Pull the cable over to the right-hand side of the crossmember and connect it to the existing ground terminal.
- Tighten the ground screw. Tighten to 10 Nm (7.5 ft.lb.).
- Wash the rear crossmember using isopropanol where the ground lead is to be taped. Wipe dry.
- Secure the cable using cable ties and wide pieces of silver/fabric tape or similar.

Note! The ground lead must only be taped at the rear crossmember, it must not be secured by the thick cable harness.

Preparations, passenger compartment




- Remove the dashboard's left-hand end panel by carefully twisting it (1) using a weatherstrip tool until the two catches release and then pull it backwards (2).




- Remove the rear sill panel at the left-hand front door by first carefully prying off the middle clip and the rearmost clip.
- Bend up the panel until it can be unhooked at the rear edge.
- Pull off the clip at the front edge so that both front and rear panels release. Turn the rear sill trim panel 90° towards the front and unhook it.




- Detach the rubber molding on the front edge of the door opening.




- Remove the front sill trim panel from in the left-hand front door by lifting it at the rear edge. Pull it backwards until the clip in the middle releases. Then pull it down at an angle from the A pillar panel.

Steps 62 - 63 only apply to left-hand drive cars

- Remove the panel in front of the steering column cover by pulling it straight back.

- Loosen the panel with the steering column cover's rubber seal, it is secured with eight clips.




- Remove the four screws for the combined instrument panel. Insert a weatherstrip tool between the combined instrument panel's upper edge and the dashboard so the edge releases, and pull out the combined instrument panel.
- Disconnect the connector on the rear side and place the instrument panel to one side.

Applies to all models

- Insert the tool, part no. 9512943 in the joint between the loudspeaker grille and the dashboard approximately as illustrated, until it engages.

Note! There is little space between the grille and the dashboard and it is easy to damage the paint on the grille. Therefore, insert paper or a thin piece of plastic in the joint between the grille and the tool before installing the tool, to protect the paint.

- Turn the tool 90° so that the hook engages with the underside of the loudspeaker grille.

- Pull upwards until the loudspeaker grille detaches, it is secured with six clips. If necessary, move the tool closer to the clips to facilitate the removal.

Note! Do not damage the dashboard and grille.




- Remove the six screws in the bracket for the screen and pull it up.
- Remove the connectors and place the module to one side.

Cable routing and connecting to the screen.

- Take the remaining cable harness and connect it to the control module.
- Route it under the member at the wheel housing, under the insulation and up to the door opening at the left-hand rear door.

- Pull out the B pillar panel at the lower edge until the two clips release.
- Continue to route the cable harness inside the B pillar panel and forwards in the car. Route the cable harness along the left-hand side, in front of the floor and insulation panels, up to the front edge of the door opening.

Only applies to left-hand drive cars
- Route the cable harness inside the floor and insulation panels, up on the A pillar slightly, and then at an angle upwards, in through the lower hole behind the end panel, towards the dashboard. Route the cable harness to the location for the screen in the dashboard.
- Place the cable harness so that it does not come into contact with sharp edges or moving parts under the dashboard.





Only applies to right-hand drive cars.
- Take a piece of wire and insert it by the air ducts through the hole for the screen. Pull it out to the left, above the glove compartment and out through the left-hand end of the dashboard.
- Tape the connector on the cable to the screen by the wire.
- Pull the cable up to the location for the screen and out through the hole in the dashboard.

Applies to all models
- Tape the cable using foam or insulation tape for example, at the point where the cable lies against the edge. This is to protect it against rubbing.
- Take a tie strap from the kit and secure the cable in the hole on the end as illustrated.

Only applies to left-hand drive cars.
- Take two tie straps from the kit and clamp the cable at the existing cable harnesses inside the dashboard as illustrated.

Installing screens





Applies to all models
- Take the screen with bracket.
- Connect the connector (1) on the pre-routed cable to the left-hand socket on the screen.
- Reinstall the connector (2) for the existing cable in the right-hand socket on the screen.
- Reinstall the bracket with the screen and tighten using the six screws.




- Reinstall the loudspeaker grille.

Finishing work

Steps 71 - 72 only apply to left-hand drive cars




- Connect and reinstall the combined instrument panel.

- Reinstall the panel with the steering column cover's rubber seal and press the eight clips into place.

- Press the panel in front of the steering column cover.

Applies to all models




- Reinstall the lower panel of the B pillar panel.




- Reinstall the A pillar's lower panel.




- Reinstall the rubber strip in the door opening.




- Reinstall the front door's sill trim panel.




- Reinstall the dashboard end.




- Reinstall the sill trim panel.




- Reinstall the side panel.




- Reinstall the top panel.




- Reinstall the screws in the side panel and top panel.




- Reinstall the side bolster.
- Return the left backrest to an upright position.




- Reinstall the seat cushion.




- Reinstall the tailgate sill trim panel.




- Tighten the trunk lid's sill panel.




- Reinstall the D pillar panel.




- Reinstall the rubber strip.




- Reinstall the ceiling panel and tighten with the screw.




- Connect the connector and reinstall the rear ceiling lighting.
















- Press the cargo compartment floor into its front mountings.
- Reinstall the gas strut in its lower mounting.




- Turn the ignition key to position II.
- Reconnect the battery negative lead




- Program the software in accordance with the service information in VIDA.
- Check the position of the camera using the calibration program.

Note! If the camera cannot be correctly positioned, remove the camera and drill out the two holes in the trunk lid for the screws. If necessary, file the rectangular holes so that the camera can be adjusted to the correct position.




- Reinstall the lower panel. Ensure that all clips engage.
- If the car is equipped with an electric door opener, connect its connector.




- Install new clips in the upper panel and reinstall it. Ensure that all clips engage.




- Reinstall the screw at the lower edge of the trunk lid's upper panel, on both sides.
