Checking the fitting of the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)

Note! The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) shows that the steering wheel angle sensor may be incorrectly installed. When installing the contact reel/steering wheel angle sensor, it is vital that the unit be installed correctly. If the unit is installed with the turning central section one turn out of place, turning the steering wheel fully could break internal components. If the unit has been improperly installed, the contact reel must be replaced. The problem may also be caused by the steering wheel being turned with a speed exceeding 1433 °/second. The problem may be due to the driver running into a curb or similar, meaning that the wheels' and steering wheel's angle speed have changed suddenly.

- Ignition off.
- Align the wheels in the straight ahead position.
- Ignition on.
- Turn the steering wheel by more than 5° in either direction to initiate the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS).
- Read off the steering wheel angle.
Check that the steering wheel angle is 0° when the wheels are set straight ahead. If the steering wheel angle is incorrect, set the wheels straight ahead and loosen the steering wheel. Then adjust the contact roller so that the yellow marking is visible in the contact roller's window when the contact roller's lock screw is in the right position.

Note! If the ignition position is in position II when the steering wheel is removed, then diagnostic trouble codes are stored for steering wheel buttons in central electronic module (CEM).
