Fault-Tracing

Fault-tracing

Checking the power supply and ground terminal

- Ignition off.

Note! Steering Column Lock Module (SCL) supplied with power one to three times every 0.35 seconds during locking and unlocking.

Check the cable for voltage feed between Steering column lock module (SCL) and Central electronic module (CEM) for open circuit or short-circuiting to ground.
Check the signal lead between the central electronic module (CEM) and the Steering column lock module (SCL) for an open circuit or shorting to ground.
Check the cable between steering column lock module (SCL) terminal #A3 and ground. Check for an open-circuit. Also check the ground terminal for oxidation.
Remedy the cables as necessary.

Were any defects found?

Yes - Verification

No - Test with another control module

Test with another control module

Note! Do not program a new Steering Column Lock Module (SCL) since Steering Column Lock Module (SCL) only can be programmed once.

- Ignition off.
- Try to replace the control module without programming it.
- Delete diagnostic trouble codes in the central electronic module (CEM).

Note! Note any other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that are in the control module, before the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are erased, in order to carry out other fault-traces.

- Check to see if the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) recurs.
If the diagnostic trouble code does not return this indicates that the original control module is defective and needs to be replaced.

Does the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) recur?

Yes - Check LIN diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

No - Replacing the control module

-------------------------------------------------

Check LIN diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
The Central Electronic Module (CEM) both transmits and receives information via a standardized serial communication method - LIN (Local Interconnect Network).

Note! This part of troubleshooting is performed to check if the Start control module (SCU) interferes with the LIN-communication.

Unplug the connector from Start control module (SCU).
Click on the VCT2000 symbol.
Establish whether relevant LIN diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the control module.
These should be remedied first.

Are there relevant diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)?

Yes - Remedy relevant LIN diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) first

No - Replacing the control module

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
Check the operation of the steering column lock. Insert the ignition key in the ignition switch. The steering column lock must then be unlocked. It must be possible to turn the steering wheel
Then check that the car can be started.

Can the car be started?

Yes - Troubleshooting procedure complete

No - Fault-tracing information

Information

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit fault-tracing

No - Attempt New Test
