Front Door Latch: Service and Repair






Door latch, front door

Preparatory work

Adjusting the position of the window and disconnecting the battery cable




Lower the window 290 mm.
Disconnect the battery negative cable. See: Battery Disconnecting
Remove the key.

Warning! The key must be removed to make sure that the ignition is not turned on by mistake.

Wait 1 minute before starting work.

Removal

Removing the lock mechanism
Remove the window. See: Window, front door. Window, Front Door Window, front door. Window, Front Door.
Secure the glass at the upper door arch. Use tape.





Remove:
- the external door handle. See: Handle outer door front Service and Repair Handle outer door front Service and Repair (-2004) or: Handle outer door front Service and Repair Handle outer door front Service and Repair (2005-)
- the screw.





Remove:
- the connector (1) for the door mirror
- the screw for the glass channel
- the 3 x screws for the lock mechanism
- the 9 x screws for the door cassette.




Remove the plastic frame. Remove the connector.
Insert the cable harness in the door.




Angle the door cassette out of the door.





Remove:
- the lock button (2)
- the connector (3) for the lock mechanism
- the rivet (4). See: Removing rivets .





Remove:
- the 2 x hooks.





Remove:
- the 2 x upper locking cables
- the mechanical lock cable (5) for the inner handle.

Note! Even if the control fails, the function of the lock mechanism is not affected.





Remove:
- the hook
- the lock mechanism.

Installation

Installing lock mechanism




Install the lock mechanism on the door cassette.
Ensure that it is correctly positioned and that the hook catches.





Install:
- the lower locking cable for the inner handle
- the lock button (2)
- the connector (3)
- the rivet (4)
- the 2 x upper mechanical lock cables.




Angle the door cassette into the door.
Route the cable harness in through the door.
Connect the connector.





Install:
- the 9 x M6 screws for the door cassette. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the screw.





Install:
- the 3 x M6 screws for the lock mechanism. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the connector (1) for the door mirror
- the screw for the glass channel
- the external door handle. See: Handle outer door front Service and Repair Handle outer door front Service and Repair (-2004) or: Handle outer door front Service and Repair Handle outer door front Service and Repair (2005-).
Remove the tape.

Install:
- the window. See: Window, front door. Window, Front Door Window, front door. Window, Front Door
- the battery negative lead. See: Battery Disconnecting
Close the window.
Check the function of the lock.
