Spoiler, boot lid

Caution! Remove any spilled primer from the boot lid or spoiler immediately using isopropanol.

Note! Do not carry out work at temperatures below 16° (61°F)

Preparations

- Clean the marked area of the boot lid.
- Wipe dry.

- Clean the marked area on the boot lid using isopropanol.
- Wipe dry.

Illustration A

- Measure for marking of the position for the spoiler's leading edge. Use a ruler placed vertically against the decor trim at the bottom, and directly against the boot lid's trailing edge at the top.
Measure a distance from the ruler of 43 mm (1 11/16"). Draw the marking with a whiteboard marker.

Illustration B

- Measure and draw markings along the rear edge of the boot lid approx. as illustrated. Measure at the side of the VOLVO emblem.

- Wipe clean the protective tape on the spoiler's attaching tape before marking on the boot lid.

Get help from a colleague when marking the spoiler's rear position on the boot lid. The spoiler is slightly straighter than the curve on the boot lid, and must be bent according to the markings on this for the marking to be correct.
- Place the spoiler on the boot lid. Mark its position along the whole trailing edge with a whiteboard marker. The sideways position shall be edge-edge (butt-to-butt) with the start of the radius in the boot lid.

- Apply a 7 mm (9/32") wide bead of primer all the way around on the boot lid, 3 mm (1/8") inside the drawn lines.
Make sure that no primer ends up on other surfaces. If so, clean with isopropanol.

- Allow the primer to dry for 10 minutes.

- Fold out the loose ends on the protective tape at both ends of the spoiler.

- Tape up the protective tape ends on top of the spoiler to facilitate pulling it off when the spoiler is attached. Carry out at both ends.

Installation

Hint: Two mechanics are needed for steps 10-11.

- Move the spoiler carefully down towards the boot lid. Place it edge-to-edge at the start of the radius on one side of the boot lid, and at the piece of tape at the front edge. Keep depressed.

- Carefully pull off the spoiler's protective tape, maintaining the position of the spoiler.
Start pulling off the protective tape (1) on the end first, then at the leading edge (2), then the trailing (3), and last, the one on the other side's end.
- Press on the spoiler as the protective tape is pulled off. Bend the spoiler as you fasten, so that it follows the markings on the boot lid at the leading edge of the spoiler.
Do not press on the spoiler to close to where the protective tape is being pulled off. If the tape gets stuck, try to carefully pry up the spoiler slightly in order to remove the protective tape.

- Depress the spoiler so that the tape adheres properly.
- Remove the markings.
