Handsfree, Volvo Handsfree System with Bluetooth (Continued)

Installing the microphone




- Remove the right end panel of the dashboard.




- Remove the sill panel in the right front door by first carefully prizing loose the front edge and then pulling up until the three clips release. Then pull forwards/upwards.




- Detach the rubber moulding in the front edge of the door opening at the bottom A-pillar panel.




- Remove the lower A-pillar panel at the right front door by first pulling up at the rear edge until the clip releases. Then pull rearward until the centre clip releases. Finally, pull it off at a downward angle from the upper A-pillar panel.




- Detach the rubber moulding at the upper A-pillar panel and the corner of the roof panel.




- Remove the cover and bolt of the A-pillar panel.




- Carefully remove the A-pillar panel by starting at the upper edge and pulling it inwards into the car until the three clips on the inside release.




- Remove the bracket for the sun visor.




- Remove the interior lighting by grasping the front edge and pulling downwards. It is held in place with six catches.




- Remove the three screws.




- Take two 700 mm pieces of foam tape from the kit.
- Cut one piece of foam tape in the middle.
- Tape one long and one short piece of foam tape on the microphone cable starting 70 mm from the microphone.




- Pull down the headlining with the interior lighting frame slightly.
- Pull the microphone cable through as illustrated on top of the existing cable harness to front edge of the headlining.

Note! Position the cable so that it is not pinched when the sun visor mounting is refitted.




- Make a mark on the foam tape affixed to the cable 230 mm from the microphone.
- Use a cable tie to fasten the cable at the mark at the existing connector.
- Install the three trim screws.




- Hold the microphone cable straight forward and refit the interior lighting.




- Clean the microphone and the headlining in the area illustrated, which corresponds to the size of the double-sided adhesive tape. Use a solution of 25% isopropanol and 75% water, as well as a lint free cloth.
Dry with care, do not rub.
- Allow to dry.

Note! In cases where the area is heavily soiled or treated with cockpit shine. First clean using a washing up detergent (FAIRY or similar).

- Remove the protective film from one side of the Velcro strip and press onto the microphone.




- Remove the remaining backing tape from the Velcro strip and press the microphone securely onto the ceiling panel as illustrated.

Note! Direct the microphone towards the driver.

- Feed in any cable excess.




- Route the cable as illustrated.
- Take three small tie straps from the kit and secure the cable at the A-pillar.
- Refit the sun visor mountings.
- Reinstall the A pillar panel and weatherstrip.

Warning! Make sure that the routing of the microphone cable does not interfere with the function of the inflatable curtain.

Installing the control module




- Take the cable harness and control module from the kit. Connect the cable harness to the control module (1).
- Lock the catch (2).




- Get a thick foam tape from the kit and fasten it on the front of the control module. Fold up the foam tape around the corners and edges of the control module.




- Remove the panel screws below the glove compartment.




- Unplug the lighting connector and remove it.




- Fold the carpet to one side.




- Place the control module on the upper edge between the car's cable harness and sill.

Note! The control module's connection must point forwards and with the foam tape towards the sill.

Connecting the cable harnesses





Steps 44-45 apply when the installation kit only contains one cable harness, A in the kit image.
- Take cable harness (A) from the kit. Route the two 14 pin connectors on the inside of the centre console, up to the media player compartment.




- Route the two 4-pin connections (2) from the cable harness (A), under the mat up to the A-pillar.





Steps 46-49 apply when the installation kit contains a dual cable harness, B and C in the kit image.
- Remove cable harness (B) from the kit.
- Do not use the 2-pin connector.
Fold up the connector and tape it to the cable harness using a thin piece of foam tape from the kit.




- Insert the 4 pin connector from the media player compartment, inside the centre console down towards the floor on the passenger side.




- Insert the 2-pin connector with foam tape into the space below the media player.




- Remove the cable harness (C) from the kit. Connect the 4-pin connector (1) with the remaining connector from the cable harness (B).
- Route the two 4-pin connections (2) from the cable harness (C), under the mat up to the A-pillar.

Applies to all models




- Connect the cable harness to the corresponding connector in the car. Take a thick piece of foam tape and wrap it around the connector.




- Insert the taped connector into the compartment under the media player.




- Connect the corresponding connectors on the cable harness to the media player.
- Reconnect the other connectors to the media player.
- Refit the media player in the dashboard and make sure that all the guide pins on the sides mate with the equivalent rails in the dashboard.
- Guide the media player in the guide pins on the front and tighten it in using the existing screws.

Note! Exercise care not to pinch the cables.

Illustrations A and B




- Open the cover on the holder for the connectors. Use a screwdriver to release the catches.









- Open the grey 4-pin connector and connect the cable harness between these.
- Take a thick piece of foam tape from the kit. Wrap it around the "loose" connector and tear off the excess.
- Place the connector underneath the holder.
- Close the cover.




- Route the microphone cable (1) toward the centre console as illustrated.
- Route the cable harness (2) from the control module to the centre console as illustrated.
- Route the cable from the keypad (3) as illustrated.





Connect the connectors to the control module's cable harness:
1. adapter cable
2. microphone
3. keypad.




- Apply thin foam tape around the connectors and the excess cables and position them as illustrated.




- Take the yellow cable with cable lug from cable harness (B) and push it up by the gearshift.




- Route the cable as illustrated.

Note! Make sure that the cable does not lie by any of the gearshift's moving parts.




- Take the 10-pin green connector disconnected from the centre console. Open the catch.




- Connect the yellow cable to pin 9.
- Press the catch back.




- Take a tie strap from the kit and secure the cable to the existing cable harness.

Supplementary work




- Reinstall the upper section of the panel.




- Replace the connectors on the climate unit.

Note! Do not damage the fibre optic cables and other cables.




- Reinstall the edge clip with cable harness in the holder.




- Reinstall the edge clip with cable harness in the lower section of the centre console.




- Tighten the panel in using the existing screws.
- Reinstall the covers on the screws at the rear edge.




- Reinstall the panel for the media player.

Reinstall:
- gearshift's panel on the gaiter.
- panel in the centre console.
- Fold back the carpet.

Reinstall:
- side panel on the left and right-hand sides
- the sill trim panel
- the end face panel
- sound wall under the glove compartment.




- Download the software for the accessory's function following the service information in VIDA.

Check the function as set out below
- Turn the ignition key to position I.
- Turn on the radio.
- Check that the keypad for Bluetooth lights up.
- Press the round button in the middle of the keypad.
The radio should mute and a voice should start to speak.
- Press the button with the red handset symbol.
The voice should stop and the radio sound should return.
