Windows: Testing and Inspection
Checking the power window mechanism
Checking the limit position
Check that the window reaches its upper limit position.
Does the window reach its upper limit position?
Yes - Checking the components and wiring
No - Checking the window controls
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the components and wiring
Check that the fuses are intact.
Check the cable between control module terminal #4B and the power window motor #3. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between control module terminal #3B and the power window motor #6. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between control module terminal #16A and the power window motor #4. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between control module terminal #19A and the power window motor #1. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between control module terminal #7B and the battery. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between control module terminal #5B and ground. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit.
Replace the cable if a fault is found.
- Ignition on

Checking the voltage
- Ignition on.
Activate the power window lift motor and take a reading across the motor. Voltage should be 12 V.
Other information:
- To access and replace the power window mechanism, see Window lift mechanism front side door, replacing Window Lift Mechanism Front Side Door, Replacing.
Is the voltage 12V?
Yes - Replacing the component
No - Replacing the component
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing the component
Replace the window lift mechanism see Window lift mechanism front side door, replacing Window Lift Mechanism Front Side Door, Replacing.
- Ignition on
- Move the window to its upper limit position using manual control
- Initialize the window
- Try to operate the window lift mechanism to its limit positions (manually and automatically).
Does the window lift mechanism operate?
Yes - Fault Found
No - No Fault Found
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing the component
Caution! A new driver/passenger door module (DDM/PDM) is supplied without software. The control module must be programmed when it has been replaced. For further information about programming and replacing the control module, see Driver's door module / passenger door module (DDM/PDM), replacing Driver's Door Module/Passenger Door Module (DDM/PDM), Replacing.
After replacing the control module the window position must be initialized.
Move the window to its upper limit position using manual control.
Initialize the window.
Continue - Fault Found
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the window controls
Read off to check that the automatic window controls for up and down are functioning on the front door controls.
Hint: Automatic window control is achieved by moving the control two stages.
Do the controls function?
Yes - Reinitiating the window positions
No - Replacing the component
-------------------------------------------------
Reinitiating the window positions
Move the window to its upper limit position using manual control.
Initialize the window.
Continue - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Verification
Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on.
Move the window lift mechanism to its limit position, including automatic control.
Are the controls working?
Yes - VERIFIED
No - Fault-tracing information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
