Pipe/Hose Compressor, Replacing
Pipe/hose compressor, replacing
Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.
Preparatory work
Draining the air conditioning (A/C) system
Warning! Follow the safety instructions for work on air conditioning systems. See: Refrigerant, safety regulations Technician Safety Information.
Read the instructions covering slow and fast leaks. See: Oil Air Conditioning (A/C) System, Filling
Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.
Caution! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.
Remove the splashguard under the vehicle (as illustrated).
Method content
This method consists of:
- replace
- replace.
Pipe/hose between the compressor and the condenser (pressure side), replace
Removing the pipe/hose between the compressor and the condenser (pressure side)
Remove:
- the left-hand headlamp. See Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing Headlight/bulb, replacing Headlight/Bulb, Replacing
- the 1x screw and 1x nut. Remove the link from the hood release catch (as illustrated)
- the 1x screw from the hose/pipe connection between the compressor and the condenser
- the pipe from the mounting clip between the condenser and twist carefully to one side.
Raise the car
Hang the lower coolant hose so that it is away from the air conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Remove:
- The air conditioning (A/C) compressor lower pipe/hose connection and place it to one side
- the 1x screw. Remove the upper pipe/hose connector for the air conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Lift the air conditioning (A/C) pipe (hose) off the holder on the sub-frame, above the coolant hose.
Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) cable from the air conditioning (A/C) pipe (hose).
Lower the vehicle.
Lift out the air conditioning pipe (A/C) (hose) through the engine compartment.
Installing the pipe /hose between the compressor and the condenser (pressure side)
Note! For tightening torques, see: Service and Repair
Install the pipe/hose on the compressor in the mounting clip at the upper connection to the condenser and in the holder above the lower coolant hose (as illustrated).
Install:
- the pipe connection 1 x M8. Ensure that the O-rings are securely positioned between the receiver and the pipe/hose. Tighten the screw
- the pipe connection at the compressor, 1 x M8. Ensure that the O-rings are securely positioned. Tighten the screw
- the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) cable to the air conditioning (A/C) pipe (hose).
Carry out finishing work. See Finishing.
Pipe/hose between the junction point on the side member and the compressor (suction side), replace
Removing the pipe/hose between the junction point on the side member and the compressor (suction side)
Raise the car
Hang the lower coolant hose to one side.
Remove:
- the 1x screw. Remove the lower pipe /hose connector from the air conditioning (A/C) compressor. Lower the vehicle.
- the 1x screw. Remove the connection at the junction point on the right hand side member.
Lift up the air conditioning (A/C) pipe (hose).
Installing the pipe/hose between the junction point on the side member and compressor (suction side)
Note! For tightening torques, see: Service and Repair
Install:
- the pipe/hose on the upper terminal to the junction point and to the air conditioning (A/C) compressor terminal
- the 1x M8 screw to the pipe terminal at the junction point. Ensure that the O-rings are securely positioned between the junction point and the pipe/hose. Tighten.
Raise the car
Install the pipe terminal at the compressor, 1 x M8. Ensure that the O-rings are securely positioned. Tighten.
Carry out finishing work. See Finishing.
Finishing
Function check with leak tracing
Vacuum pump the air conditioning (A/C) system. See: Vacuum pumping Vacuum Pumping.
Fill the air conditioning (A/C) system with refrigerant. See: Refrigerant, filling Refrigerant, Filling.
Leak trace the air conditioning (A/C) system. See: Leak tracing, fluorescent tracing agent / UV lamp Leak Tracing, Fluorescent Tracing Agent/UV Lamp or Leak tracing, electronic leak tracer Leak Tracing, Electronic Leak Tracer.
Install the splashguard under the vehicle (as illustrated).
Carry out a performance test of the climate control unit. See Climate system, performance test Climate System, Performance Test.
