AFFECTED VEHICLES:
DESCRIPTION:
Customers may complain of a rumbling noise while driving on uneven roads.
SERVICE:
Test if the noise can be reduced by pulling the fuse for SUM (SUspension Module). If the 4C Active Chassis system is quieter when the fuse is pulled, reinstall the fuse and download service software for the SUM, P/N 31268876 via VIDA. Tests show that this software can reduce the rumbling noise by approx. 50-70%.
If the noise is not reduced by pulling the fuse for SUM, then check the car for other faults. Start with RTJ's: 20251, 17438,17389, & 17640
Note:
If a customer wants to restore the original SUM software, download SUM Upgrade via VIDA.
XC70 ONLY: For critical customers, if the noise still persists after the SUM software, replace all of the shock absorbers with the part numbers below. If these parts are used, the unique SUM software PN 30659023 must be used.
