DESCRIPTION:
There may be a metallic knocking noise from the front suspension when turning, accelerating, braking or during situations with side loads. Analysis has shown that it is possible that the noise is caused by movements of the rear bushing in the subframe bushing tube. See Photo 1 "TJ 17385 -2" in the attachment.
PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
A new subframe with a tighter bushing tube was introduced in production from structure week 2008w13 (see chassis ranges above).
MATERIAL:
PN 9511027, 3M DP8005 adhesive (good for up to 5 cars)
PN 9512950, Glue gun
PN 1161730, nozzle for special tool
PN 31201148, rear subframe bushing
Alternative adhesive: "LORD 305", a general purpose, medium viscosity, two-part epoxy, often found in USA.
SERVICE:
Use the Chassis Ears toolkit to verify that the noise is coming from the bushing. If a metallic knocking noise can be heard from the bushings, replace the rear bushings and apply adhesive between the subframe tube and bushing.
The recommended adhesive is 3M DP8005 two-part epoxy. See Photo 2 "TJ 17385 -3" in the attachment.
Note!
If properly glued, the adhesive increase the joint strength by approx. 50-100%.
Important!
Let the glue set properly before the subframe is installed in the car. Refer to the recommended time on the glue tube.
Important!
There have been some reports regarding difficulties with removing the existing bushings from the subframe following the previous VIDA procedure. It is important that the removal socket is installed in the correct way, with the small hole in the socket facing the subframe. Refer to Photo 3 "TJ 17385 -4".
